Nobody is using Apple Pay to give money to Apple. Nobody.

I don't even know why you had to include that in an otherwise well-reasoned post.

Let me disabuse you of the notion that Apple Pay is free, or that Apple has nothing to gain from it but to make its users happy. You will pay for it, one way or another. But you will pay.

Cheers!

Done:

"I am exceptionally disappointed by your decision to intentionally disable NFC transactions from Apple Pay and Google Wallet in your stores, which was apparently done in favor of CurrentC, which is a far less secure payment technology.

As soon as my prescriptions have been successfully transferred to Walgreens, I will be cancelling my ExtraCare card and will no longer patronize any CVS. I should note that I will happily drive past the local CVS in order to patronize a store who cares more about my financial security than CVS and the rest of the MCX member merchants do."

Beautiful

I cant wait until the federal Government gets involved because Apple is trying to create a monopoly with Apple Pay. Might not look like it for the people who don't question Apple's operations but a lot of us see it. Thats why you see companies not accepting Apple pay. We shalll see!

Huh?

NFC is a worldwide payment standard backed by VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, and tons of the biggest worldwide banks.

It's amazing how so few people in this thread actually understand what they are talking about.

Whatever solution CVS advocates, I suggest that Apple ban it from the App Store thereby depriving CVS of Apple's desirable customers.

CVS needs Apple's customers a lot more than Apple needs CVS. Just saying.

Used ApplePay at Walgreen's last night for the first time; it was pretty slick. This Walgreen's is across the street from the CVS that I usually use.

I agree with contacting CVS/RiteAid if you feel strongly about this issue, but they are very unlikely to listen, because they see money in the ability to track their customers - and ApplePay prevents that.

If you really want to get the attention of the CVS/RiteAid executives, start shopping there, preferably for some expensive items. When you try to use ApplePay and the purchase is denied, just tell the cashier that you no longer want to purchase the item. Feel free to tell the manager that you are no longer going to purchase that item because of their policies, but will be going across the street to Walgreen's to buy the same item.

Sometimes, only money talks.

Let me get this straight.... These competing companies are colluding in order to try to shut down Apple Pay? I think this is where the DOJ steps in and enforces some of those anti-trust laws. How is this different than a hypothetical situation where say Amazon, Apple, and Barnes and Noble colluded to refuse to carry books that were not self-published in order to break the backs of publishers?

Oh please. If you don't understand the difference, you shouldn't be posting.

And again, nobody is claiming that Apple Pay is free. Where are you getting this stuff from? Furthermore, nobody is claiming that Apple has nothing to gain from it. If people like using Apple Pay, they are more likely to buy Apple hardware- this is what Apple has to gain for it, along with the small percentage of each transaction they receive from the banks. It's nothing evil or secret- it's out there in the open.

I think the DOJ just slapped Apple's hand about it and Amazon.... well, karma is going to be b......

Personally I could care less ... it's that sense of entitlement, when you can't, that causes me to upchuck.

Why would you feel physically ill because I want to use the most secure method of payment that is available? Why does other people wanting to protect their privacy make you ill? Have you discussed this problem with a therapist?

which nobody ever used

That's because it doesn't exist yet. It's "in development", i.e. vaporware.

... and has zero shot of ever being widely used.

Not as long as it wants direct access to my bank account (I'm not doing the "pre-load like a gift card" thing). I never EVER use a debit card at a store, only the bank's ATM.

I'm not saying this does not disappoint me, but those stores that do not accept Apple Pay will only be receiving cash from me until banks and locations start offering Chip and Pin/Chip solutions.

I no longer want to watch news headlines to make sure a retailer I recently used was not compromised, thus worrying about my CC information being dumped on the internet.

Apple Pay and Google Wallet alike are solutions that can stop this NOW, and these companies are purposefully denying this method of payment because they are more worried about not getting the statistical information of my shopping habits.

Well they cannot deny cash, and guess how often I carry cash with me? If I am inconvenienced to the point where I have to make a trip to the ATM, I will not be visiting that retailer very often, and when I do they still will not get statistical information from me because I am a cash paying customer.

All this means is now I'll probably never shop at either of these stores now.

Never did in the past. Only would to try out apple pay

They gather your CHECKING ACCOUNT information and draft from your checking account. Think electronic checks....

Something that I never do - allow any merchant or utility to draw from my checking account. Every try to get money back from a utility after you've been overcharged? It's worse than pulling teeth. These institutions are simply not set up to transfer money to their customers. Do you think they will pay for any overdraft charges if they empty your bank account?

With a credit card charge you can contest any charge and they will credit your account immediately until the issue is resolved.

This battle was lost at the keyboard ACH for me. I got hacked thanks to home depot and amex had to eat a massive charge. I was 100% protected so were all my funds i use to you know pay the lights the water the house note the internet bill. I had zero impact from this issue. If it had been ACH well now that would have turned my life upside down till it was sorted and that is not some instant thing. I do not see how they are going to work this with out.

Wow. You're going to take your business elsewhere if you can't use a method of payment that didn't exist in the past anyway? It's no longer possible to pull a debit card from your wallet? What has happened to people?

I'm going to take my business elsewhere if I can't use my preferred method of payment when the competitor across the street is offering it. Just like I'll go to the bodega across the street that takes CCs instead of the one that is cash only. Just like I'll go to the pizza place that consistently has fresher pizza instead of the one across the street that always seems to be stale.

Surprise, surprise...people have preferences. Sometimes those preferences emerge when new technologies emerge. Nothing new has happened to people, this is the evolution of technology just like when people started preferring TV shows over radio shows. New day, new tech. People move forward.

My guess is some of these posters are involved with NFC development or are shareholders or both.

And there are some who will defend apple's every move, and freak at ANY criticism of Apple, No matter what. Just look at the defense of the new "improved" Mac mini.
