It’s pointless to buy and play this game on Mac. At low settings maybe. Better get a ps5 to actually kind of enjoy the gaming experience of cyberpunk. Even the ps5 is not enough.
But yet it runs just fine and has ray tracing support, it's called Apple Silicon and it's powerful. Unless you have a M3 or M4 and play it you have no business saying it only runs at low when it actually runs at 60FPS at 2K res with high fidelity settings, HRD and ray tracing on the M3 and M4.

"Users with higher spec Mac models can look forward to enabling two special configurations: High Fidelity requires an M2 Ultra or M3 Max chip and 36GB of RAM, and produces 2,294 x 1,432 or 2,560 x 1,440 resolution with a target FPS of 60. Meanwhile, Very High Fidelity requires an M3 Ultra or M4 Max chip and 36GB of RAM, and produces 2,294 x 1,432 or 2,560 x 1,440 resolution with a FPS target of 60."

So a real GPU...

I have a Hackintosh that could easily run this.... but there's no way anything will come close to the performance in Windows. Unfortunately, this game will be gimped on any M1 system, the GPUs just don't cut it and Apple is too damn stubborn to get AMD or Nvidia to make dGPUs for their computers anymore (which they absolutely should for their Mac Pros.... why the christ arent there any available?!)

Literally years later.

Imagine if Apple announced, "glad you all liked Severance. New season will be available on Netflix, Max, and Peacock next year. AppleTV+ in 2030."

They're still deeply unserious.
I get the feeling that CDPR simultaneously optimizing CyberPunk for another ARM-based platform—the Nintendo Switch 2—probably had some bearing on the timing of the Mac release.

Apple has been getting some AAA ports closer to other platforms (various Ubisoft and Capcom titles).

Oh my god, this is too expensive. It's outrageous.

I hope they have a sale at some point because holy hell Batman, that price!!

$82 for a game that I don't know will run well on my M2Pro?

You have to be kidding me.

Shame, I really wanted to finally play this game.

$37.59 on GOG right now is not expensive. It's literally mentioned in the article. The base game and Phantom Liberty cost only $20 each separately. Goes frequently on sale.

Anyone know why its so much more storage from the app store?

(I'd insert a funny AI image I have about cyberpunk, but sadly you can't post any AI stuff on macrumors.)

I saw it mentioned that it downloads all of the VoiceOver dialogue. I wonder if they had to include all languages in the Mac App Store version as they don't have as much ability to customize the package. Or if the GOG version is dynamically streaming some VO from the internet? Wasn't aware the game did that.

App Store guidelines 2.4.5:

"(ix) Apps must contain all language and localization support in a single app bundle."

Development studio CD Projekt Red today released acclaimed role-playing action game Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for the Mac, and it looks like the developers have gone all-out to make the experience as impressive as possible for Mac gamers with the right hardware.

cyberpunk-2077-mac-hero.jpg

The 2020 triple-A game has been Metal API-optimized for a variety of Macs with Apple silicon, from the first M1 models right up to the latest M4 models. The only caveat is that Cyberpunk 2077 requires a minimum of 16GB of RAM to play, so 8GB M1 and M2 chips don't get a look in.
To make the most of your machine, the CD Projekt Red team has created "For this Mac," a dynamic preset that assigns settings and resolution based on your Mac's hardware capabilities "to deliver an optimal balance between visual quality and performance."

For example, the Minimum configuration (M1 chip and 16GB of RAM) runs at 1,440 x 900 or 1,600 x 900 resolution with a target FPS of 30, while the Recommended preset requires an M3 Pro chip and 18GB of RAM, and produces an 1,800 x 1,125 or 1,920 x 1,080 resolution with a target FPS of 60.

Users with higher spec Mac models can look forward to enabling two special configurations: High Fidelity requires an M2 Ultra or M3 Max chip and 36GB of RAM, and produces 2,294 x 1,432 or 2,560 x 1,440 resolution with a target FPS of 60. Meanwhile, Very High Fidelity requires an M3 Ultra or M4 Max chip and 36GB of RAM, and produces 2,294 x 1,432 or 2,560 x 1,440 resolution with a FPS target of 60.

In addition, Apple XDR Display owners and owners of other HDR-equipped monitors will get HDR support in the game, while AirPods owners can enable Spatial Audio and head tracking. Lastly, users who want to play with Ray Tracing on can enable it manually in Settings ➝ Graphics, under the Quick Preset menu. Ray Tracing is available on M3 and newer chips.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition supports cross progression across all platforms, and includes the Phantom Liberty expansion as well as all subsequent patches. The title requires macOS 15.5 or later, as well as 92GB of storage when downloaded from GOG, Epic Games Store, or Steam, and 149GB of storage when downloaded from the Mac App Store. Prices vary depending on the store, but GOG currently is offering a 53% discount on the game's usual $87.69 price that ends on July 23. Note that players who already own a copy on these storefronts can download it for free on their Apple silicon Mac.

It looks like another bad game with guns and bad things…

great game, but ill stick to playing it on GEFORCE now. I can never seem to get games to install right on external drives and the internal drives can't handle **** this large.

So is this game like GTA or similar?

Way better than GTA. Much more story driven, night city is such an interesting world, better music, more serious, and one of the best games I have played in a while. I played it on PC but I really recommend this game as an open world. I have a bit of open world fatigue but this game is worth all the money I paid for it. When it first came out it had so many glitches and problems. Now it has been fixed entirely and the expansion Phantom Liberty is amazing spy story.

Unlike GTA, it has much better shooting, multiple ways to play the games( ie you can shoot, use tech, sword or knives, and more).

Imagine waiting five years (five years) to play this game just so you could be an Apple purist. Boggles the mind.
I won’t be buying it, and I’m not an Apple purist, but today is the first day I’ve had a machine that supports the game. Everyone doesn’t have a bunch of different devices for gaming. I’ve only got my Mac mini and Nintendo Switch and have been very satisfied with the games available to me.

I don't want to have to install any other programs to be able to play it, and even so, I'm not keen on spending even $30 on a game that I can't demo.

I don't play enough games to be able to tell what my MBP can handle well.

150 GB for the App Store version compared to the 90GB on GOG? What the hell is bundled?

The App Store version includes all languages so it’s bigger in size. One of the key reasons (apart from the sale of course) I bought it on GOG.

Alas, I can’t download it yet because the offline installers for Mac aren’t available.

anyone found a good mod to make driving tolerable with mouse and keyboard? I have this on the gaming PC, but stopped playing because of that specific pain.

It's because its the game + expansion.
The game alone is $59.99 and Phantom Liberty is $29.99.

I take it you are not familiar with Cyberpunk Table Top RPG right? This franchise is older than GTA in so many ways. The Tabletop game was first released in 1988, where GTA was released in 1997. You can read more about this in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_(role-playing_game)

The video game uses this as its premise, and the original Author of the TTRPG Mike Pondsmith is a producer in the video game. This is a big, rich franchise, you should read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_2077 just to get all the juicy details.

On Steam the core game is $59.99 and Phantom Liberty, the DLC is $29.99 this is where the $82 price tag comes from. You could buy it cheaper on GoG for $37.59 - https://www.gog.com/en/game/cyberpunk_2077_ultimate_edition which is a 53% discount.

Did you see how this game looks on Windows at max settings or with mods? Go watch a YouTube video and comment after. Stop being a fanboy and be realistic for once.

GoG which is CDProjekt Red's "steam" portal, is pretty decent and lightweight. Much more lightweight than Steam is I might add. If you want to "demo" the game try GeForce Now if you want.

Depending on the type of Gamer you are, this is one of those games that its worth getting regardless. But you do you! :)

That's why most stores have refund policy. GOG says "You may request a refund for a product up to 30 days after purchase, even if it was downloaded, launched, and played". Steam has a two-week return policy if you've played max 2 hours.

Really shines on the Series X.
I have the series X. I think the reason I waited to play the game was that it was going to get a major patch/upgrade and was waiting for that. I think that came out maybe two years ago and I had forgotten about it lol.
