The ONLY good thing about living in Edinburgh is how close it is to great MTB spots. In a 15 minute ride I can be in the countryside and 30 minutes later half way up a hill. In a car there are about five MTB centres within 90-minutes, though I prefer the DIY approach. In Scotland the access laws mean you can ride anywhere, even on private property. Buy a map, find an empty spot with plenty of contour lines, and get hucking!
Plenty of really sticky mud in winter, too. And ice. Sometimes the mud freezes. Keeps you on your toes. Or sometimes arse.
