The whole issue has made news in all sorts of places....as it puts a new perspective on cloud computing and what is may not be what it was cracked up to be (at least not in the current form).

Hopefully, Jay and the other businesses, had SLAs with Amazon and will receive monetary compensation for this fiasco.

Based on reading some of their own forums (Amazon's customer service forums for the AWS service), it is going to be another fiasco in and of itself.

Some news outlets, Associated Press and even the Wall Street Journal, are reporting that this outage ISN'T part of the Amazon AWS SLA.

I've been reading a lot about it this morning....several of my websites are hosted by SoftLayer (previously ThePlanet.com) which cloud computing is an offering from them.......it's pretty amazing the amount of computing power you can have access to......even for very small businesses.

Wow. Lost sales and lost customers and no compensation from Amazon! I'd be looking for a new service provider ASAP.

We run a large private cloud and while I feel their pain, I wish they'd get crackin'

This is now officially pissing me off :(

Come on Amazon, pull your head out.

I guess Amazon's AWS service is run by monkeys then.....

I may have been mistaken here ....as the more I read their updates to progress it's clear that.....some of the recovery issues may not have been completely thought out for the severity of the event that happened (which sort of means they thought it couldn't happen).

Some of the 'dumbed down' statements posted on their status page in the past 12 hours is talking about the bottleneck to recovery being not enough disk space......as well as the recovery process using too much 'control pane' utilitization. Sounds like not enough CPU/memory/hard drive in the setup to me.....

there is a big long msg about it in cydia in bright red colors when you 1st open it up. it's not like the issue is being ignored or Saurik doesn't care. I agree it's frustrating but this is not end of the world crap.

That's not my thought process about it at all.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Much of the frustration from a lot of customers is going to get pointed at Amazon's AWS service and their incompetence. For example, Netflix barely had a hiccup at all, because they planned around the possibility of Amazon AWS service failing.

I've seen the message in Cydia, a couple of times it's been updated. Saurik is most likely in a catch 22 position right now. He needs it up, so that he can get the most current copy of the database that exists, and then prepare for transferring to a new solution.

BTDT once on my website (over 40 gig of data), and it sucks to be in that position. I hope his backup is a mirror situation, otherwise it is a PITA to get it all fixed.

IMO, this AWS will cause lots of companies, both large and small, to rethink their cloud strategy. One of the reasons companies go 'to the cloud' is because it's less expensive than installing the hardware and software and staffing to support the same services in house. (Granted, in house is not an option for everyone.)

However, many people are on the sidelines watching this Amazon Incompetence on Parade and thinking, what if Amazon was hosting my eCommerce site or my Pega development site and I couldn't make sales or access it for 2 days (so far)?
