Portia, remember that your Action can be "Dash", which means basically a double move instead of a move + a proper action. so in principle you could get up here in one turn (depending on the rolls)

Wouldn't it be wise that the count comes down instead us trying the damned dice to go up? we should retreat to a more favorable position me thinks.

Grappling hooks. This will most certainly be on our shopping list when we next visit some manner of urban settlement. Even the most primitive spot, devoid of the amenities of civilisation and culture (book stores, taverns where steaming hot coffee is served…..) will have grappling hooks - somewhere - for sale.

The goblins go before he does so they will attack him before he can come down. Also, there doesn't appear to be a more favorable position between the side passage and bridge (goblins on both). If we want to stay, we have to fight the goblins sometime.

To the Count: take your scimitar (light) out so I can see better.
To Veit: Help me get up to the Count.

Orders: (I will be in and out today so here are my orders when it's my turn). Do a double movement and acrobatics to get up to the Count as soon as possible. Get my sword ready when I reach the top.

It's always best to stay together so we should all climb. Everything is actually occurring almost simultaneous in a 6 second window so we can all climb this round.

To be fair: that's just your assumption. We don't know if they come down from the side passage, last time I checked there wasn't one.

Also, we could always run across the stream and either go to where the wolves were or further to the main entrance. The goblins would need a while too to come down from the bridge so probably wouldn't know where we ran which could have beneficial for us as well.

If I had cast light on the bridge they wouldn't know where we are at all as well.

Anyway, let's teach em a lesson!

As the Count has already pointed out, my constitution and dexterity both appear to be somewhat above average, while my strength - described as 'average' ought to be more than adequate for this task.

Since we are in combat, everything is sequenced based on the initiative roll. I believe Veit could declare a reaction where he wouldn't climb until everyone else has. Otherwise Syllin is the last to climb.

Well, Veit has already declared that he is last to climb. Or, have I read that incorrectly?

Besides, I'm not entirely clear about what the GG/DM meant by 'initiative' and the sequence he set out; I take it that in 'real world' terms, all of these actions happen, more or less simultaneously?

Initiative is the sequence when you can act in a combat round. @ravenvii rolls a D20 and adds the character dexterity modifier from the character sheet.

@ravenvii rolled the following initiatives for this combat

Veit: 11 - 1 = 10
Portia: 17 + 3 = 20
Syllin: 5 + 2 = 7

That means the sequence of decisions is Portia, Goblins, Claus, Veit, Syllin, and finally Bartholomeus.
Veit wants to be the last one up but his initiative occurs before yours. It's up to @ravenvii if Veit can be the last up.

The higher initiative rolls go first (Portia goes first and the Count goes last). Initiative is used only for determining the sequence. You get a +2 modifier for your good dexterity but, unfortunately, you rolled a 5 giving you an initiative of only a 7. The Count is on the bridge so your action is last out of the people not on the bridge. Since you are last, you could tie the rope around your waist and we could pull you up (if we are not fighting goblins).

Well that may be, but if me helping you go up give you guys an advantage on the dice roll - I would sacrifice one action for that. I think that should be possible! So I would a) use one action to help all of you guys getting a head start on the rope and b) would then cast my flaming spell on one of the goblins. That would be my idea of an ideal approach. 😉
