I am not referring to any D700S rumors, I am just saying it would be a logical alternative to D800H from Nikon given that:

- D700S would be a weak competitor to D4.
- New D700S would be a strong competitor to used D3S.
- D700 owners don't like the MB-D12 price.
- If the D700S is sold at about current D700 prices, it would not only attract upgrades from D700 fps+video users, it would also upsell to potential D300S customers, while the D800 would still attract customers looking for megapixels or the latest.
- Engineering such an upgrade is much less expensive than a completely new camera.
- The D700 will be sold as long as there is demand.

The only thing is that it should not be possible to sell it in Japan because of the batteries (that's why the D700 is not sold there anymore).

But it would cannibelize D800 sales and this is one reason why you will never see a D700S. In short, the camera is not needed dude. You have the option to live with your D3S, or D700, or upgrade to either the D4, or D800. I am selling my D3S and will get the D4 and D800. It is that simple.

I don't think it would affect it that much, because most people would see it as "old tech", and it would be expensive enough that many people would prefer to spend several hundreds more for the latest.

If you don't want a small cannibalization of the D800 with the D700S, they can cannibalize the D4 with the D800H, like they did with the D3 and D700. Many pros want an integrated camera anyway.

Define integrated. And Nikon would be absolutely insane to introduce a camera that could undercut their hi-end version. Seriously dude, you have to have a basic business understanding. Really, you don't see this as a reason why Nikon will not introduce a camera to compete directly with its flagship camera? Not trying to be condescending or aggressive but your arguments don't make business sense. You are a very small minority that is looking for a camera that no business minded company would develop especially if it would undermine says of the higher end device.

They already "cannibalized" themselves before. Why would they not do it again if it's working for them?

You cherry pick your answers, and deflect. Not once have you attempted to answer my questions. Could it be that you simply have no clue? Also, when did this big Nikon cannibalization take place?

- D3 vs D700
- D90 vs D300

etc.

It's not the only company that does it.

I've wasted enough time with you. You are absolutely clueless and I am not sure if you are doing it on purpose or if it is genetic. Anyway, good luck with whatever. I have not time to try and educate you. You seem quite happy not to be burdened by facts. Who am I to try and change your belief system.

I was thinking to maybe give a chance to the D300S + Tamron 35-105 f2.8, but it looks like the video autofocus of this camera is not suitable for action at all.

I forgot to unsubscribe to this dumb thread but being that I got an email message, I will school you one last time. The D300S doesn't have an autofocus video system. You have proven once again, that you are just yapping in the wind and have no clue as to what you are talking about. Get a P&S camera before you hurt yourself. Leave this to the people who actually bother to read. Your clue is waiting for you at the door.

Research before you post. The D300S has contrast autofocus during video.

Too funny! Doylem was the first person besides the OP and Sapporobaby to post on this thread. The "two" are going back and forth for a decade! I have never seen a thread carry on between two people like this before! 37 posts to be precise! hehe You two should do standup together! :D

I am not saying that it will happen. I am saying that a D800H would be consistent with Nikon's tactics.

No, it wouldn't. There's never been anything other than a DNh body and that was skipped in the last iteration and likely will be in this one too- the DN bodies are now fast enough that there's no need for an h submodel. The D700 will be gone once the parts are AND the D800 is actually available, which IS consistent with Nikon's tactics. It would be a major departure for the prosumer line to be fragmented into parallel submodels. There's potential for a D800s down the line, though I think that's unlikely.

You say a D800 with a grip is small enough, but a D4 is too big- your expectations are unrealistic if you think Nikon agrees with that enough to make a new submodel. You're missing images by not shooting with a D4 now- there will be a few years until the D900, so your choices are really either a D3s, a D4 or a D7k or a 5DII and eventually 5DIII.

Nikon will likely sell every D800 they make for the next year, why slow down manufacturing allocating any of that production to a different sensor? The D800 is a "switch from Canon" camera, a mythical D800h wouldn't be- there's no point in it strategically given limited production capacity. More importantly, the necessary price delta based on a lower resolution sensor doesn't make economic sense in the marketplace.

If there's no competition, why was I told to go buy a Canon? OK, It could be that poster's demonstrated lack of correct information.

What delta? The D800H could just as well cost the same as the D800E if there's less demand for it.

The innards would have a lot of commonality with the D4, and the outer parts with the D800.

I'm sure I didn't say anything about no competition. But who cares? If it's the tool you need then go get a 5DIII. There will be quite a bit of used Canon glass on the market in the next 8 or so months. I know more than one long-time Canon-only professional shooters who will add a D800 and a couple of lenses for studio work who'll eventually start dumping their Canon gear. At $3k, they almost can't afford NOT to get the D800.

The market won't sell a same-priced body with lower resolution. That would limit sales even more than they'd be limited by the resolution differences- the economics simply do not work. No way to make it happen, so it won't. Nikon is very good at camera economics.

There is less than a 1% likelihood of such a beast- the manufacturing lines would have to be modified and the global return just isn't there. It wouldn't sell enough to take the edge off the cost of changing the line compared to the D800- Nikon won't lower the D800 capacity any time soon because they'll sell every single one they make.

Well, what I really want is a serious workable 3D digicam, so this is just one more thing pushing me to ditch DSLRs for a prosumer 3D video camera.

Or sell all your photo gear and buy a decent set of golf clubs instead...

But the Nike Victory Red Full Cavity are for high to mid handicappers and they're the wrong size and the Forged TW irons are for Pros and the Split Cavity aren't forged! I mean Nike should make forged irons for everyone in a pro-format club but at amateur prices! I don't want to have to buy a new set when I improve my handicap! ;)

So you went to winding up paul and s-baby about a d800h and all the features that you would need and want and what not, but then in your last statement you go on a bout 3D???? how old are you? I mean, I know i will get a warning from the mods for this but wow... they don't come with a much lower IQ .....
