Hmm.. have you listened to yourself lately? ROFL.. this is took funny... to quote crusty the clown... you sir,... (google it, you get it).

you must be smoking something.. and it ain't the good stuff. So you went to winding up paul and s-baby about a d800h and all the features that you would need and want and what not, but then in your last statement you go on a bout 3D???? how old are you? I mean, I know i will get a warning from the mods for this but wow... they don't come with a much lower IQ .....

now, everyone else.. nothing to see.. move along...

It's worth the warning.... :)

I need video since before I started taking 3D photos.

An action DSLR with video is just a poor stopgap measure I could use as long as there is not a 3D action stills camera.

I am not referring to any D700S rumors, I am just saying it would be a logical alternative to D800H from Nikon given that:

- D700S would be a weak competitor to D4.
- New D700S would be a strong competitor to used D3S.
- D700 owners don't like the MB-D12 price.
- If the D700S is sold at about current D700 prices, it would not only attract upgrades from D700 fps+video users, it would also upsell to potential D300S customers, while the D800 would still attract customers looking for megapixels or the latest.
- Engineering such an upgrade is much less expensive than a completely new camera.
- The D700 will be sold as long as there is demand.

The only thing is that it should not be possible to sell it in Japan because of the batteries (that's why the D700 is not sold there anymore).

I really shouldn't comment and continue this thread but since I am dumb enough to have a D2H and D3 I will go ahead.

A fast FPS D800, i.e. if there were a D800H, would not make sense. If you want the FPS then you want the D4 - a D700 with MB10 is actually bigger than the D3 which is bigger than the D4. Most people who are want FPS will be using large fast glass and the Dx series just feels better than the Dxxx series with the big lenses.

Nikon was smart to make the D800 and D4 very separate cameras. The D700 and D3 share a sensor so they were kind of the same for many people. The D800 is all about megapixels. The portrait and landscape folks will want this and don't have a need for FPS. The D4 is about getting the picture with megapixels being secondary to obtaining the shot. Pros and serious photographers will want this.

And regarding the Japanese sales and the battery. Nikon chose not to produce new compliant D700 batteries because they had the D800 in the pipeline. If Nikon really wanted to sell a D700S, they would have spent the money to certify a new battery.

Just my .02 which is probably worth only about a nickel due to metal prices.

More continued lunacy...

Sapporobaby, I am wondering why you don't own the middle trinity lens? I am considering selling my D3 and 24-70 to finance the D4. I have the trinity along with a 50 1.4D and 85 1.4D and find that the 24-70 is my least used lens.

Great post and one of the many that make sense other than the ones from the totally hopeless individual.

Actually I do own it, I just missed listing it. I am also going to get the 105mm for macro shooting. I have the 50mm, f1.8 as well. Thinking of getting a PC lens as well.

That is not the point. The D700 is less bulk when you don't carry the grip.

The problem with the batteries is the exposed contacts. It would not be possible to make new compatible ones.

If they wanted to sell the D700s also in Japan, that would be possible if it used a new battery, but keeping the body compatible with the MB-D10 so that people wouldn't have to buy a new grip and develop a new version of this grip using the new batteries, so that it could also be sold in Japan. I think this new grip would have to be incompatible with the old batteries.

If it were not compatible with the MB-D10, it would not be a D700s.

Well, it seems the D3s and even the GH2 video autofocus don't cut it for motion.
I have my doubts the D4 will be there yet.

Well, then friggin buy one, stop whining and enlighten us all!! geezas christ get a friggin hd video cam and be done with it...can someone kill this thread?

If you don't like the thread just don't read it.
I'm not the one attacking other people.

If I were a pro videographer I wouldn't be looking for autofocus.

You don't have a clue what you're looking for. Some of the smartest people in this photography forum have explained things to you over and over and you simply move the goalposts on to the next subject. I find it all funny now because no one takes you serious. You are simply here for the amusement of us all. With that being said, on behalf of the others, I say thank you for the entertainment.

It's precisely because I know exactly what i want and you think your way is the only way that you attack me.

3D. I'm pretty accepting and excited for new technology, but 3D still seems a gimmick to me. I don't want it anywhere near my dSLRs...

Not until glasses-less 3D monitors and screens are commonplace, at least.
