One of the things I mention to folks thinking about buying a Mac is that iLife is included.

I can run my life with iWorks nicely. And it would be a nice bone for Apple to throw it in for free - to a limit. My modest proposal would be for Apple to bundle a full version of iWorks that will work for up to lets say 60 days AFTER the next version is announced. If you were to buy that version, it would work till it will not work on whatever hardware or software changes made it not work - like the switch to the Intel platform...

Be happy they include iLife.
By not including iWork, you can chose between that and MS Office.

Man... it makes you think that expensive apple computers such as the Macbook pro lines should atleast include iworks free of charge.

Not really. Apple would just bump up the price of the hardware to disguise iWork as free. Besides not everyone would want to pay for it (through hidden costs) especially if they don't want to use it.

Tell me something that OSX can do that Windows can't do in terms of multimedia, gaming, office usage... etc*

Run Final Cut Express/Pro

so let me get this right, this guy has spent £1700 on a macbook and is now arguing that they arent worth the money :/ .... im confused... me thinks someone should have researched more rather then buy on the 'cool' factor. haha.

I doubt he bought a macbook, he's just a troll. He seems to be complaining that macs are expensive, however if his story was true, price wouldn't be an issue for him because he was able to spend £1700 without even researching what he was getting.

Also he seems pretty much in love with windows, according to some of his posts, so why would be have bought a mac anyway??

I actually would.

Hell I would even pay for the restocking fee but its too late to do it now since the time for returning is up.

And I don't want to deal with ebay, amazon or those kind of sites.

Sounds like you only have your ignorance to blame.

Dear OP,

You're complaining about paying for an "over priced" computer and how it doesn't have some software on it for free.

I have a question for you. Why did you buy a MacBook Pro if it's so "over priced"?

Just sayin.

Love,

Me

Hmmm, I'm going to have to agree with the free iWork :D After all, it comes with iLife free, which a suit of apps, so why not include iWork as well, which is also a suit of apps?

Yeah everything should be free. Why should I have to pay for anything?

They should give a free RAM upgrade too. I mean, it already comes with RAM......

In fact, they should throw in free black turtlenecks as well.

What Apple could do to make it work to their advantage is this:

Include a free iWorks with the student free iPod touch dealo. That way, most of the students will use iWorks instead of Office, because iWorks COMES with the computer. Then, when those students buy their next Mac, they'll of course buy iWorks over Office, because they've been using iWork the WHOLE time they've had that Mac :D

How do I qualify as a "student"?

Most of these students are flat out rich, at least from reading here. None of them seem to hurt for money, yet they get a discount and free merchandise while the rest of us who lack money seem to get a big middle finger.

It isn't the student that is buying these computers for the most part, its the parents.

After you step out of your world of self pity..... j/k. Just realize that a lot of members on this forum are of age 12-18 years old that act like big shots that don't have a dime to their name and won't mention that their parents are buying them these Macs or at least funding the majority of them. Most of them need nothing more than a white Macbook but they convince their parents that a Macbook Pro with all the Core i trimmings is necessary for school, when in reality, they just want to join the cool friends at school with a MBP. Don't read into everything you see on MR.

Why do you think that? I'm a student and I have a MBP and I'm not flat out rich ...

Hi Dan!

Actually, I thought this was what I wrote using different words, but it seems I did not since you have company.

Anyway, my beef is this: A lot of students who will literally be chucking their MBP into the passenger seat of their new BMW Z or Porsche 911 are being given discounts and free ipods and the like to buy a MBP. Meanwhile, say a hundred million Americans who still have jobs, can't afford one of Steve Jobs machines because their job does not pay anything.

I seem to be missing something fundamental that my fellow Americans possess in abundance. Perhaps the gene which produces psychopathy?
