This thread is full of so much fanboy BS is a joke.

Hwo about we just end it on these two point:

FACT - Office has MUCH more functionality then iWork
FACT - MacBooks Pro's are about 2x's the cost of a PC with the same hardware, If you are going to say it's because you get to use OS X then you are voiding your ability to complain about the purchase cost of Windows, because you just said your OS X cost about $800.

I think iWork should come with every new mac like iLife does. It would increase the adoption rate of iWork, which Apple would also get more money from more people upgrading every year or so.

You only have 8 gigs of RAM?

Too bad. If you had 16 you could rule the world.

Personally, I think you should get iWorks for free if you purchase a MacBook Pro.

You're not paying additional money to use OS X. You get OS X whether you buy a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or even Mac Mini.

Apple used to provide AppleWorks, while also selling copies of it at resellers. Apple did differentiate the iBook and PowerBook lines in the past. If you don't know what Appleworks is, it was a free "Office"-like software bundled with iBooks (and iMacs, eMacs) so that you had a word processor, spreadsheets, and a few other features (I forget what) right off the bat. The counter-intuitive part of what I said is that Appleworks only came with iBooks, but not with PowerBooks because they assumed you would get Office X for your "Power" laptop.

I see no reason why Apple couldn't include iWorks with their "Pro" hardware. It's not pro-level software, but it gets you started, and adds to perceived "value-for-money" of the product while not costing Apple much money.

It’s iWork, iMovie, iTunes, and iPhoto.

At least spell what you are ‘begging’ for correctly.

Well everyone to their own, but personally I find iWork much easier to use than office, which always seems to stuff up for me. Thats why I got iWork. If you find office to be more functional than iWork, then you can use it :) But a lot of people don't.

...I can't believe I read that whole thread of posts...

Yes, I'd like to try iWork but don't want to pay for it so I won't try it...

Open office and Neo office are "FREE" and give you M$ office functionality = so why does this thread even exist (that would be kind of funny if :apple: started pre-loading their machines with Open or Neo office like most netbook makers do these days...)...

Yeh, I've tried Open Office, but its not as good as iWork. Of course though you wouldn't know because you haven't tried it ;) The free alternative to something 90% of the time isn't as good as the paid one. Open office haven't got the money Apple has for developing, and Open Office isn't built by the same people that built OSX, and it isn't built specially for Macs either...

How do I qualify as a "student"?

Most of these students are flat out rich, at least from reading here. None of them seem to hurt for money, yet they get a discount and free merchandise while the rest of us who lack money seem to get a big middle finger.

It's because when you have to drop $40,000 just to go to college, an extra $1300 is nothing to a parent.

You got most of that right but the part I highlighted is completely wrong. Apple didn't include Appleworks in the Powerbooks because since they were "Pro" machines they included more business-professional software which was a full version of Quickbooks which did not ship with the consumer line.

Does anyone remember when they installed the iWork trial with OS X Tiger (It might have been Panther)?
Obviously they were not very popular or did not go well, as they don't do it anymore! :)

Yes, but I reckon most professionals would have been better off with a word processor and spreadsheet program! My poi t is that Apple once thought it was necessary that our systems came with a word processor, but this was also a time when Apple wasn't doing very well and were willing to do more to please customers. Now they don't, and perhaps they'll ever have that urgency again.

Compared to Office, I think iWorks is, in 2010, what AppleWorks was in 2001 when it was still bundled (I know it was still being bundled more recently than that, but relatively speaking, it was more behind Office than iWorks is today).

iwork would not make it "pro"

Right now "pro" means firewire, sd slot, aluminum case and lighty up keyboard.

I know it fights the whole vibe apple is going for but I would love if there was an option for dedicated video card. Like take away my optical drive, allow me to buy an external one (air style) with firewire and put me in a semi decent video card. Id gladly give 1-2 hrs battery life for graphics boost. But then id want a more recent processor...

Maybe the sad truth is ive outgrown my 09 13" MBP... Its great on campus but she aint got no nuts. My next is a 6 core mac pro... In year or two... or three... money doesnt grow on trees

Ps i liked the WOW comment, wow is to trolls as milk is to cookies

Actually there is an iWork trial, it's fully functional and lasts about 30 days IIRC. Just download it from Apple's website.

ta ta, a.

Christ, another "it's not pro" thread. I don't get why people buy these laptops and moan about it afterwards. They're obviously expensive, it's easy to try before you buy, there's a gazillion webpages telling people they're expensive for the hardware. What the funk??

I wouldn't go and buy an expensive car after looking round for weeks only to start bitching about it's low performance/price ratio as soon as I bought it. There are PC forums where people would be much more excited to hear bitching about apples.

Good PCs are great, if that's what people want then just get one! There should be a disclaimer when you log into the site saying that, and to go to www.ihatemacseventhoughijustboughtone.com if you want to discuss how **** your new mac is for the price.
