In any case, I'm hurt no one has mentioned the humble Jaffa Cake yet... :(

I absolutely adore Jaffa Cakes and with a nice cup of coffee can demolish an entire pack in one sitting if left to my own devices, which is why they're banned from the BV penthouse and anywhere near my desk at work.

I must say that weird orange stuff doesn't really blow my skirt up, as it were.

Since meeting my boyfriend from England he introduced me to that stuff early on. I love most of what he's given me, but alas, I no longer eat sweets so it's up to him. :)
Some of my favorites were:
Sherbet Fountains
Flake bar (btw cadbury here in the US tastes awesome, but Cadbury from England is out of this world!)
Cadbury's Dream
Lion Bars
Yorkie Bars
Curly Wurlys

And on a side note, from Japan...white rabbits are awesome!! But they're not "British". :)

That's why I only ever used to buy the standard twelve packs and not the larger tubes with more in them, even though they're better value. Because I'm weak.

mmm...british candy. Brings back fond memories of youth.

Sadly, living stateside for so long, it has been a rare treat for too long.

I love(d):

Aero Bars
Flakes (though impossible to eat w/o a good % of it all over yourself)
Lion bars
Whispas (iirc, i might be confusing it with something else)

Ive been out of the game so long that modern advances in British chocolate technology have gone unnoticed...

It's not really though... our chocolate is famed for being crap, and rightly so, too much milk, fat etc... and not enough cocoa content.

That said, I used to get my ex to send me over Milka bars from Austria (until ASDA started stocking 'em) as I think they're completely yummy... and apparently they're considered to be the equivalent of Cadbury's over there.

MILKA IS AMAZING. during a short stay in Spain I purchased a lot of Milka (which is about 4 bars to me). Very good stuff, really is milky! had to keep it in the fridge too. spain is NOT a country for chocolate.

Galaxy is my favourite (barring Milka) regular chocolate. Or perhaps those Nestle Double Creams. They really are something else.

However. I think honestly all chocolate pales drastically to the 60p Thorntons plain old chocolate bar. It's just perfect, the melting point, the taste and texture. It's very well done and reassuringly expensive.

I have a soft spot for Skittles. Though not too often.

HOW CAN ANYONE FORGET THE LEGENDARY CADBURYS CREAM EGG? I am shocked and appalled. I'm going to be sick. could be due to the Thorntons chocolate inside me though.

AHH! hell yes! The one thing I miss from my trip was the candy!

Cadbury's over here is by Hershey, and it's not as good as it is over the pond :p

and green&black's is the best chocolate. not many stores here sell it (havent found em at target...), but i buy a lot...mmm yummy..

not so much here in woodstock, ny. you'll find them more in the "health" and "natural" stores, or in a couple of supermarkets in their organic sections. too pricey for most people.
That's why I got mine from Target. Cheaper than the organic or healthfood stores sell them. ;)

Green and Blacks is sexual (dark chocolate with orange spices mmmm). I'm also addicted to this dark chocolate with Guiness in it which is doubly sexual! and Jaffa's of course rock!

When I went over to the states I really enjoyed Butterfinger bars! They're one of those products that you feel have so many E numbers, preservatives and sugar content that they would be banned entering the UK market.

After so many years, a friend of mine managed to buy me something like 30 Butterfinger bars for my birthday. I've only managed to eat like 4 of them since November they're just so sickly! Otherwise, I couldn't believe how Mars bars and M&Ms etc tasted so different (ie less nice) than the UK versions?!

If you don't like the dark, then you don't like chocolate! (One chocolate hound's opinion.)

As for the quality of U.S. vs. European chocolate, I think you've disproved your own point. Good, even great chocolate is made in the U.S., you just need to look a little harder for it, the popular factory-made stuff being so uniformly bad.

:p Milk chocolate is chocolate too!!

I was refering to the mass produced chocolates that the countries have to offer. Hersheys Vs. Cadburys.... Cadburys wins hands down.

Also, it has to do with availability. In a small country like Belgium, a country known for its chocolate, excellent chocolate isn't hard to get. In the US, good chocolate is not as readily available. Of course we are talking on a huge scale, and generalizing quite a bit, so the ease of chocolate-procurment could be different on a person-to-person experiance-to-experiance basis.

Crunchies or Twix's are the way forward. It is actually true, we do have great chocolate over here. A lot of my family live in Germany and when I go there I'm really shocked at how crap the general snacks are in comparison.
You'd think I'd lose weight out there but then I go and stay with my grandma. 4 full meals a day. Lots of meat. Lots of cakes. I put on about a stone every time I go!!! (per week)

So I am told... ;)

You're right, the major difference is in the mass-produced variety. It's a lot like beer. Plenty of very good beer is made in the U.S., you're just not going to find much of it in the local supermarket.

Caramac Kit-Kats are my current poison. I scored one yesterday that didn't have any wafer in Mmmmm freak chocolate is the best.

I also like the Cadbury's Dipped Flake, it's a good size for pretending you're smoking a cigar so I don't look out of place in board meetings as a non-smoker.
(sorry just watched Green Wing)

Love the different food stuffs across the Big Pond!

With my trip to Iceland and London in February; I feel in love with what London offered in brands that I knew; but never have seen here in the US.

For candy, me and my US mates have fallen for the 4 boxes of Cadbury' Roses candies. Probably the best gift that I brought back for my sister and my co-workers.

The other was Pringles Light Aromas. I had the Thai and Greek styles. And brought some of these back with me too. Pringles US is missing something by not having them here, the people I shared my limited stash with loved them!

When I was in the US I saw they had Zero% fat Pringles so took a couple of tubes back to the hotel room. You can only imagine my disappointment half way through the 2nd while idly reading the back of the tube before getting the bus to the airport for a 12hour flight "May cause loose stools"

LOL! That must have been a fun flight home.

Better than the food poisoning that I got with my flight from Iceland to LHR. had the egg breakfast. Lucky for me it did not hit me first till I got to my B&B at Hammersmith-Fuller. And then a few hours later for a spectacle at the Westminster Tube general area.

Give credit to the Underground personnel. They were more concerned about whether I needed a doctor, hospital, or chemist than anything else. Even the B&B owner on my quick return asked if I had been to the chemist upon my quick return. He even insisted on tea and toast to calm my stomach. :)

Nothing wrong is "self catering"! It was the only way that I could enjoy Iceland ($3.17US for even the cheapest items, it seemed - 200krIS). Even in London, most items seemed to be priced at 99p or about $1.75US. "Self catering" allowed me at least in Iceland to splurge on some great meals of whale, lamb, and puffin. In London it was a stretch for me to do Pringles with the food poisening; but the Light Aromas sounded so good!

hehe to me it seems kinda funny to me how Milka is something special for some people ;)
around here they're the market leader with their stuff and no matter what they put out it's gonna sell just through their brand power alone

they have their high points though: 100g Noisette or Yoghurt and the big 300g "whole hazelnut" one

("Suchard Finessa" has more special fillings but of course are also more expensive ;) )

and easter chocolate being bad ? this year i had big cocolate bunny from Frey, a small Milka chocolate bunny, and a small Lindt "Goldhase" ("golden bunny") and all of them were excellent

http://www.lindt.de/ueber_lindt/sortiment/ostern/klassisches/index.php

for paprika flavored chips: it's the most popular around here but the Pringles ones aren't really that good
