Although I do like tinkering, I guess you're right, the reason I like OS X is because of the general lack of hassle in comparison to Windows. If I'm going to go through that hassle anyway, it seems like I may as well stick to Windows if I'm going to build a computer.
I studied the various Hackintosh sites, set-up a Gateway PC I had here with Snow Leopard. Didn't completely work, though maybe fewer problems than Entopia7. I also got SL to run on a virtual machine in Windows, that's sorta fun (still have it loaded) but not fully functional.

If any of those guys running Hacintosh machines have 100% functionality with 100% satisfaction, they must be miracle workers for sure--it's nontrivial at best to get one of those working. And of course they're on their own in re: help of most any kind, unless they get lucky at tonymac or the others.

I've decided if I want a Mac (and I think I want ML and future MACOSX/iOS continued integration) then I'll buy an Apple Mac with Appleshare and Apple Store support (and breathe easy) and if I really gotta have Windoze on that machine too, I know I can run Boot Camp and/or a VM on it no problem.

I've talked myself into waiting on the new gen though, with ML, whenever that comes.

A month ago, no way would I have considered going back to PC.

But now it looks like the iMac isn't coming soon, I would have expected to see some promising rumours by now if it was in the next month or so. I'm starting to consider the fact I could get a PC with a really nice screen up to the spec I want for probably less than I would pay for the iMac.....

I don't want to do that but if I have to I might. Any good all in one PC options?

Yup. I'm not sure if I would be better off with a Windows PC desktop or an iMac. I'm always going to have a Mac computer for my laptop but not sure about desktop yet. Any help on what I should decide?

Just two that I'd consider atm: the Dell 27 AIO and the HP Z1. I don't know how tinker-friendly the Dell is, but the HP is built like a clamshell for ready access to the innards.

I don't think either is "cheaper" than the iMac though!

I'll never own another PC ....if Apple were to close their doors tomorrow I'd buy a bunch of iMacs and store them away for future use should mine ever fail !!!!

That's the attitude! We need more people like that so we can get the Mac population to be bigger than Windows.
