You probably cleaned your screen while there was a grain of abrasive material on it (grain of sand, salt, metal shard, etc.).

I cant believe it scratched that easily. I was rough as can be on my 3gs and it never scratched this bad.. What are the chances that apple will put a new screen on it in store? I read online that they can do it much easier with the 5. Will they charge me? Dang this sucks :(
I've got a solution for you! Scuff your iPhone 5 take it to the Apple Store and show scuffs to genius and tell him it was like that out of box and you wanna replacement because of that. Don't show or mention him about scratches on screen. He probably won't even look at screen since you'll be pointing his attention to scuffs only :D

I'm just guessing here, but if you installed a good screen protector now (like a Zagg HD), it may hide the scratch(es), making them unoticible.

Not to be mean... but why post without a pic?

If you don't have another camera, just don't post ;)

Sorry this happened to you. Hope you get it fixed.

Or...take in a nice pocket knife and tell him you're going to cut him if he don't replace it.

what about just saying I have the wifi issues.. which I have had a few times. Would they swap it out no questions asked?

Funny how that comes out when you have a scratch, but you never thought of bringing it up before. Nice.

Im pretty negligent with my iPhone but it never had a scratch... until the Draw Something fad. But even with cheap styluses it only got a few brush marks and nothing more so Im really curious how people manage to scratch their screens that badly.

Clean the screen really well and install a screen protector. The scratches are probably on the coating and not the actual glass. A screen protector should hide them and make them barely noticeable.

This doesn't pass the smell test. Either you use a case or don't use them or need contacts otherwise you have scratches

I don't know about all the other stuff he mentioned but I have never scratched an iPhone or iPad. I had a anti-glair screen protector on my iPad for a little while but took it off because it took some sharpness away which I didn't care for. As for the iPhone I never used a screen protector and I can assure I have no scratches on either the screen or the glass back. I'm careful and always conscious about where I set my phone down or whether there's something in my pocket. I don't think it's that hard to keep your phone looking like new. You just have to care for it. I'm confident my iPhone 5 will look just as good two years from now.

I cant take a pic.. the only camera i have is the phone itself. Youve never seen scatches before??

I'd like to see a pic too. No need to be a smart a$$.

U admit ur "rough" on ur phones. Well, what do u expect? The 3GS was no more scratch resistant then the 5. Glass scratches. And when u treat ur phone like *****, it's gonna look like *****. Apple should no way be responsible to pay for ur neglect.

How did you scratch it? Glass is pretty freaking hard to scratch.

I have always done screen protectors (just cause). Usually Zagg (as they are easy to get, and the new HD version is actually very good). I JUST put a Glas.T on my 5 today, and wow is all I have to say.

The main downfall is that you only get one, so one shot at it. But if you use the hinge method, you should be ok.

How did it happen? In 2 weeks I haven't noticed anything that suggests that the 5's screen is any more scratch prone than the screen on my old 4S, which was scratchless when I sold it earlier this month. If it's just the glass it might not be that expensive, although now the touch sensors are incorporated directly into the screen, and there is no longer an extra touch sensor layer.
