Strange. Never saw this happen.

I know it might be stupid to ask, but you tried restart, right?
I have tried almost everything possible but it doesn’t work. I’m just afraid to reset it because I have so my configurations which why I don’t want To reset it.

By reset, you mean “reinstalling OS”?

You don’t have a Time Machine backup?
Um yes I’m not sure if it is going to backup all my settings or not. Settings are Essential to me. When I bought the MacBook I instantly install BigSur developer version However It had too many issues I had to downgrade and lost all my settings when I installed Catalina again dark mode worked for a while Then it suddenly disappeared. So far I haven’t received any help because use majority of the people haven’t faced this issue I tried to submit my question on many Different online forums.

Reinstalling macOS over your existing installation doesn't change settings or personal files.

However, you should first create a new, test User Account to see if the problem is particular to your existing one.

Hi, can you link me a way to reinstall macOS over my existing installation thanks.

Step 1: Choose Command-R

Step 2: Don't erase drive
I reinstalled macOS but it didn't work. Somehow adding a new user-worked as you said before. Is there a way to see the log of my current profile?

You must have something installed/added that is mucking up the works. Download Etrecheck and generate an anonymous report that you can post here.

Um yes I’m not sure if it is going to backup all my settings or not. Settings are Essential to me.
That’s unfortunate. Typically an issue with preferences is resolved by... literally deleting your preferences file, or migrating to a new User to start fresh. In your case, you downgraded from Big Sur and probably have some now-incompatible values stored in your relevant plist, i.e.:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

Deleting that file, and logging out and back in to your User, might fix Dark Mode, but you would need to re-configure everything from scratch. Also, it might not fix Dark Mode, because there's other plist files in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ that seem to reply to switching that setting in my testing, and they might reintroduce the incompatible values.

What would I do, in your boat? Delete the systempreferences.plist and reconfigure my settings, and see what happens.

Ah. Then it's either time to move to a new user and start fresh, wait for an OS update to fix it, or wait for someone who knows magic Terminal commands to chime in.

Is there a way to backup all the data, reinstall the Os and retrieve all the apps including the data? For example backing up an iPhone on iTunes

Hi, I recently bought a MacBook pro and the dark mode is not working as you can see in the screenshots. it only darkens the menu bar and the dock also had the same problem on macOS Catalina. Please help

There is a terminal command to do exactly what you are seeing - to force "dark mode" to only affect the Menu Bar and the Dock... the command below turns that off... Enter this command in Terminal and then restart your computer.

Code:
defaults write -g NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool No

Thank you so much! That command fixed the problem.

Thankyou for this - I have had the exact same problem and this solved it for me. Chapeau.
