London gets quite a lot in return. The Thameslink upgrades, Crossrail, the new East London line and the Tube upgrades are all multi-billion pound infrastructure projects that basically only benefit London directly.

If you read the article it takes all of those into account. And even after all of that we subsidise the rest of the country.

This is exactly the reason why I can't wait to finish my degree and get back out of this god-awful country.

Same... apart from I've only been out on holiday. I'm going to move to russia after I've finished studying, my cousin lives there and he can get me a job and a cheap room there.

Broadband Tax

I don't understand the point of this tax. What is the line rental we all have to pay for a landline used for then? Also, the maximum I can get at home is 5MB. If the infrastructure is improved so I can get 50MB, surely my provider will charge me more for the privilege in which case I'll still stick with the 5MB I'm getting now. But still have to pay 50p a month extra for it.

Believe me when I say I am no fan of MPs, but:
Yes, they actually do pay income tax… seems all that seething anger of yours has made you misinterpret the facts.
And as for your list of taxes. Show me a developed country anywhere without a similar list.

Actually, that'd be whinging the UK is best at.

I'm well aware of the facts. MP's do indeed pay income tax on 'profits' over and above their personal allowances but most will claim expenses on income up to the £6,495 limit so they avoid most or all of their taxation.

Anyway, moaning or not, developed country or not, the uk government is in a pretty dire state.

Gordon brown for example had ten great years as chancellor with excellent growth and good economic stability. He borrowed money in every one of those ten good years. Today, we have little or negative economic growth (depending on the stats you read) and no stability and we are STILL borrowing money.

We now have massive debts and the labour government is still none commital in admitting it's part in this massive cock up.

There have been more regulations and rules made in the last ten years than any previous government and taxation make up for a large proportion of those rule changes, most of which are only in support of one thing: lining their greedy pockets.

I say get rid of the lot of them. They're not qualified for any of the jobs they do (where else could I get a job as chancellor without any previos financial experience!). We need businessmen who know what they're doing- not these quangos.
