iPhone 6 Wi-fi issue occurs on T-Mobile phones also

Happens to me on T-Mobile, so I don't think it's a carrier issue. I've noticed since I got the iPhone 6 last month that wi-fi and LTE just stop working at random times. For example, I had no problem all day and evening yesterday and wi-fi was working for me all day today until around 1:10 pm, when networking went deaf. It still shows the wi-fi signal strength icon, just won't talk over either wi-fi or LTE. A reboot is the only thing that brings it back. This occurs at least several times a week. Sometimes it will occur more than once daily, then go for several days without the issue. I'm suspecting a bad or flaky chip on the phone's motherboard (or whatever they call it in a phone).

I can visually tell when it stops working because the indicator on the status bar changes from "T-Mobile Wi-Fi" plus the signal strength icon (indicating that I can make calls via wi-fi) to showing only the signal strength icon, in which case the wi-fi and LTE data connections are dead.

I have this problem about once a week on my iPhone 6+, but not on my iPad Air 2. Since they're both on Verizon, I would say it's not a carrier thing. I also used to have the same issue on my 5s, so I wouldn't say it's a 6/6+ thing either. Maybe it could be the router idea someone posted, but it happens to my phone and not my iPad even when they're both connected to the router...so I don't think that's it either. The only reason I find it to be an inconvenience is because then you have to use your password instead of Touch ID the next time you go to iTunes/App Store.

Thanks for this. Was actually considering going to ATT.
So you'll have to reboot to regain Internet? How often would you say this happens?

I'm on AT&T and in the past few months this issue has also happened to me. I had thought it was a hardware issue since I'm still on an iPhone 5 -- but good to know that it's probably software.

I agree that iOS8 seems to be the buggiest iOS release ever. Rushed.

I sincerely appreciate all the responses. Even though the bug is horribly annoying, it does make me feel better that I don't have a lemon and that I'm not the only one.

We will see if it happens on iOS 8.1.3.

Possible Solution - Updated

Update from previous post:

It's been a few weeks since I put in the Apple AirPort Extreme router and the problem has not returned on any of our 3 phones.

It still appears that replacing our router was the solution for our situation.

Well...since updating to 8.1.3, I have not had this issue reoccur.

Has anyone had this issue with 8.1.3?

Yeah, I get this problem too every now and then. Basically, my phone says the wifi and LTE are on and working fine, but if I try to open a webpage, the page will never load. It's really hard to reproduce, so I'm not sure what causes it. Using a iPhone 6 on ATT.

This happened to me today with my 6 Plus on AT&T. It was strange to loose date capabilities on both wifi and cellular. Everything is fine after reboot. I've had a 6 since launch and never experienced this bug. Only got the Plus 3 weeks ago and this was the first time.

I definitely get more frozen apps and glitches in the UI animations on the Plus than the 6, so it's interest to hear it does happen to both.

Anyone else experiencing a similar issue? Where their data connection stops responding (wifi and cellular) and a reboot of the phone is needed in order to fix?

...did you ever get this resolved?

My wife's iPhone XS does this same exact thing (she's on EE - a UK carrier). Her data will randomly just stop until she does a reboot and then it just kicks into life again??!

Must be an EE issue as it happens to me as well on my XR. Sometimes just turning mobile data off and back on again works, other times it needs a reboot.
