This doesn't require any software to be installed on your PC or Mac. It uses standard file sharing protocols (AFP for mac, FTP for windows) to get the job done. It uses WiFi, so you just join your iPhone to the WiFi network your computer is on and your good to go.

What if you don't have access to a wireless network? Can you use your computer to create a computer-to-computer network, and connect to that? And what about using it with a desktop? Are there alternatives to the wireless method (as awesome as it is)?

Take care,

There are rumored new iPhone disk features:
  • Enable Disk Use
  • Access to MobileMe iDisk folder
If this turns out to be true, would it remove the need for DataCase for people with MobileMe?

What about people without MobileMe?

Not necessarily. It depends on viewing support. Having Disk Use is part of it, but being able to actually view Office, iWork, etc. files is another big part. We'd have to see if that was part of it.

MobileFinder

I don't know which mobilefinder you are using but mobilefinder is packed with more useful features, has a much better PDF viewer and the fact you can turn of file sharing is much more secure and useful than password protection. It's a cheaper app with more flexability and features. As far as I can tell the memory problem has been resolved and it is as stable as datacase. I completely disagree with longofest on this one.

I also tried MobileFinder, but DataCase blows MobileFinder out of the water in every respect. MobileFinder kept on running low on memory, and only supported FTP, so not nearly as easy to use. Also DataCase's security features are better, though its somewhat nice that MobileFinder doesn't constantly have sharing on while you are in the app (you can turn it on/off).

In general though, DataCase is worth the extra bucks.
