Was so bummed to hear and read this, this morning. Man I really dug his music. Heck I remember all of the big hopla over his "Little China Girl" music video only being played after 10:00pm.

RIP Mr. Bowie...........

3....2......1.......

Another musical great bites the dust. Running out of these.

The music heroes of the 60s and early 70s are approaching (or are already in) their eighth decade of life. According to the actuarial tables, many will soon go the way of all flesh. It doesn't help that most didn't live the healthiest lifestyles.

This train is only going to pick up speed.

Here's a great interview with David Bowie from 2000. What I love about this interview is how he views the future of the internet (starts at 6:20) and Jeremy Paxman just cannot understand it...at all!

8:18 "In the sixties there were the Beatles and Hendrix..."

Thank you, David, for saying that. So many others may be promoted but ultimately these are the real sixties music gods.

Well, yes. My point was that what came after isn't even close to replenishing that pool and the current generation of 'talent' defines ephemeral.

... Bowie was the first musician I was really into. ...

Likewise. I was in the 8th grade and we had a Swedish exchange student who had the album Pin Ups. That was the beginning of my love affair with his music.

He was my first live concert. And though I lost a bit of touch after Let's Dance, he always occupied a position in my pantheon of favorite musicians.

The underdog game changer who lit up the stage, gave us great music and movie performances leaves us.

He'll be missed by many of us.

RIP David Jones.

Bowie was a legend, a pioneer, a movie star, a rock god blended to eloquently with an interesting, insightful intellect. It's amazing how much inspiration he was for so many bands, and styles, Glam, New Wave, Prog Rock.

He had a real effect on my psyche, especially in high school, where it became clear you could merge music, film, art, design, fashion. My favorite work is his mid career music - the "Berlin Trilogy", but also the brilliant 1980 Scary Monsters (all still owned on vinyl), his collaboration with the amazing Eno, Fripp, Chuck Hammer, Iggy Pop, Queen - hell, the list goes on.

RIP

This came as a shock. So sad, and I had no idea he was ill.

I was in elementary school when he came out and he seemed forever young and eternal, even to this year. First version of Space Oddity, below:

From a tombstone-

As you are now
So once was I
As I am now
Soon you will be
So be prepared
To follow me

RIP David Bowie..

Been listening to his catalog at work all day. Not a bad song in the bunch except that Dancing in the Street duet with Jagger.

Aw man. :( I was just watching the Black Star music video the other day and thinking how morbid it is, dead Major Tom and all. Takes a whole new meaning now. Apparently he knew of his illness for at least 18 months, but kept it a secret.

RIP David, and thanks for all the great music through the decades.

The prettiest star.

I don't think I've ever been left tearful by a celebrity's death before now.

:-(
When I got the first saw a tweet saying RIP Bowie, I thought it was just another twitter killing just like people have down with Justin. I immediately searched Google and it was confirmed, this was just past midnight here in Colorado.

I shouted out How the F can this happen? How is this possible? He was supposed to live forever.

I've cried more times then i can count today. This mans music was a part of my life more than any other band. Even now, tears are streaming from my eyes.

I hope he can now see just how his music has affected the world and how the world is today, thanking him for enriching our lives.
