Stupid winter... stupid stupid. Cold. Wet. Cold. Dark. Stupid 'psych me out because it feels like midnight when it's only 5pm darkness.' Psh. I miss me some summer.

Sigh oh well... time to 'think positively,' right? Winter= sweaters! Yaaay! Cashmere, cable-knit, Fairisle, merino wool, ribbed cotton, v-necks, crew necks, roll necks, turtle necks, boat necks, cowl necks... yay for sweaters!

Thank you! I was beginning to feel alone in this thread. Everyone else seems to like it cold. :(

Not everyone. Spring and autumn are my favorites. Don't like to sweat, don't like to careen out of control due to ice on the roads.

i agree, but i can deal with cold temps as low as they want to go. snow and ice can be a pain though.

Yeah, to be clear, my only issue with cold is the resultant heating bills, which look to be quite painful this year. And I don't really hate snow, but a decade in Syracuse, NY with averages of 15'+ snow/year makes me a bit intolerant of it. ;) But... I HATE ice. Except in my drinks and under skates.

Nuh uhhhhh! It's only October and there was already fairly heavy snow today. At least it's over 40 (5 for the fahrenheit impaired) now...

Im not a fan of winter, the cold the dark, I find it much easier to stay cool in summer then to stay warm in winter. Im not gonna dive into the ocean in the middle of January to stay warm like I would the middle of July to stay cool. I like snow tho, if only we could make it snow when it is 90 degrees out. Id love to be at the beach now but its too cold.:(

I am actually against this new Daylight Saving Time law because it is going to be dark for so long in the morning. I guess it depends on where you live. I live in South Dakota on the eastern side which is near the western edge of the Central Time Zone. Right now it does not start getting light until almost 7:30 in the morning during this time of the year on DST. One week more in the fall probably won't be that big of a deal however. The biggest problem is moving up the start time into the 2nd Sunday of March. It does not start getting light until 7:30 in March on Central Standard Time here. When the time changes it will be dark going to work in the mornings and for the kids walking to school. Like I said before, it really depends on where you are located in the time zone. I grew up in western South Dakota on the eastern edge of the Mountain Time zone. In that case, the change will be fine and will actually be a benefit to them.

The other thing is all my devices with auto-set clocks will be messed up. Oh well if it really saves all the energy they say it will maybe it is a good thing. It will just be hard to get motivated to get to work in the morning in the pitch dark while making sure I don't hit a kid walking to school!

and the US can't even switch over to the Metric system! ;)
I'd say we are trying...very slowly.
Ever since elementary school I've been learning it...I've got it down pretty well now.

This question just now occurred to me...
In other countries, how do they mark the field in "American Football"? Is it with the American system (yards)?

No offence, but it's really not that tricky. It's kinda logical. :)

Although, I suppose if you're used to something else then it'd be a bit weird at first.

Erm, you do realise other countries aren't America, right? :p

Sorry, mean wit aside, the American football field(s) are marked in yards here, simply because that's how you guys do it.

Autumn is my favorite season, with October typically being the preferred month. This year in NYC October turned out to be the wettest ever recorded and was the dreariest I can remember.

Looking forward to a few months of cold temperatures is more the result of having a need for a sharp break from summers that tend to be humid here. Cold air is invigorating ... brrrr-ing it on! Do other NFL fans enjoy watching football games played in single digit temps?

It is marked in yards but so few people actually play it here that I don't really care.

afaik they are marked in yards as well ( i've never seen a american football field) since nearly every team has as much americans as they are allowed to have ;)

ARGH. Wanna know what's really annoying? How a lot of car manufacturers use the standard (AKA American) system and the metric for different parts in the same gosh darn car!

Yeah, NASA got in trouble for doing the same thing.... ;)

They got in REAL trouble for doing the same thing. I seem to remember the sole reason one of those Mars probes failed was because someone didn''t convert feet to meters, or vice versa, so the whole mission was a failure.

But, of course, we all know what NASA is really focusing on these days... :D

I want to know why a big Scientific agency with loads of worldwide contacts was using anything other than metric in the first place.

I think that normally Fall is the best season here in New England. At least it has been for me. I really dislike summer because of the heat and humidity. Spring is usually terrible cold and rainy. Looking forward to WInter and snow.

Like others what scares me is the cost of heating my home. Have always been conservative, so no much else that I can do this year. :(
