OP: That really sucks. It's really annoying how hard it is to be sure if they've been there since getting them or have somehow 'happened' over time. Good luck getting yours sorted.

Would you guys post some pics of your dead pixel(s) for us? I'm curious to see how it looks.

This isn't the clearest photo in the world but you can see the stuck (on red) pixel that I have below left of the 'J' in 'Join Date'.

I'd love to know how to massage this 'on' when the screen is behind glass though! I'm kind of scared to press too hard!

Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to "massage" the screens on the new MacBooks. The glass prevents the screen from receiving and actual pressure.

I'm sorry you've got a stuck pixel though. Real bummer. :(

I didn't doubt that you had a dead pixel, just wanted to see it. That would bother me too much. I'd take it back for sure. Let us know what you decide and the outcome.

Yeah I would definitely rather not have it but I'm not in the position of the OP. Mine's not exactly in the way so as long as it's just the one I think I can live with it. I shouldn't have to but I do worry about swapping it out for another machine and getting some other issue!

I wonder how difficult it would be to swap out an entire screen? Since we're hearing about these three models of screen with one apparently much better than the other two...

"Massaging" the pixels only works for stuck, not dead pixels - you just get the cleaning cloth and gently rub the screen where the stuck pixel is, and it should go away... It worked on my stuck pixels, anyway...

I really not sure how I feel about it... on the one hand, the dead pixel isn't very noticeable, and is quite close to the dock, so it's not in the middle of the screen... On the other, I spent a fortune on this computer... But am I expecting too much by asking for perfection? I don't expect perfection from people, and this was made by humans, so can I expect perfection from a machine? I'm thinking I'll give it a few days and if it doesn't bother me, I'll just take it as 'character'.

In my opinion, character is what the computer (or anything) develops over time with love/use/abuse. It's not a defect that exists straight out of the box.

Yes, the computer was made by people, and it's probably not going to be 1000% perfect, but at the same time, lots of other companies have managed to make products without these issues becoming so prevalent.

A word of warning though: once you ask them for an exchange, you wont be able to get your current computer back if the exchange has more problems. They may let you exchange again, but you wont be able to get your original machine back. I brought mine in for one dead pixel, and went through 4 exchanges with major defects. I asked for my original one back, and they refused. I ended up just getting a refund.

Excellent points. I returned for a refund as well. When a $700 HP laptop can be 100% defect free I expect the same from Apple. Dead pixels are a disgrace as well as any defect on the shell.

I agree... How come $500 Dells seem to not have any pixel issues but a $1300 laptop does?

Makes no sense at all.

the genius at my apple store said that a dead pixel was normal on LCD displays and refused to replace my system or the screen. But he did agree to replace the slanted keys on my keyboard.

1 or 2 dead pixels doesn't bother me depending on where they are at on the screen. I have 2 dead pixels. One on the lower right side of the screen and very top. I didn't notice them until I really looked for them, and I still don't notice them unless I try to see them. I wouldn't tolerate them in the middle of the screen though.

Dead pixels are not normal. In my opinion each panel should be checked for laptops because most people view the screens from a close distance. I wouldnt accept any dead pixels (and I dont have any on any previous computers, my projector, and my other HDTV's).

Again the question you have to ask yourself is if Dell, HP, Gateway, etc can have sub $1,000 notebooks with perfect LCD's why cant Apple?

Dead pixels are not acceptable on any level.

You are supposed to be paying for quality. Ask them what the hell you are paying so much for if blank spots on the screen are acceptable.

That doesn't work for dead pixels. I'm going to go to another apple store this week to see if I can do something about getting a replacement system/screen. When I got my macbook the front right side was higher than the rest and whenever I put my hand on it it would hit the surface and it was really annoying. I tried to fix I but ended up making it worse and now the lid has been slightly curved on the front. I'm not sure if my warranty covers it but the genius also said that if I want a new access door I would have to pay for it. But doesn't the warranty cover the whole system even though the original lop-sidedness wasn't my fault?

If the Genius doesnt let you return it then I would speak to a manager and even eat the 10% restocking fee. That is a disgrace and Apple should be ashamed.

The quality of the new MacBook screen is laughable at best!
