Agree; given the price of comparable sets from Sony and Bose, I’d go for these at £400 or even £450 (there’s a markup in the UK given Apple’s price conversion) for the instant pairing with all my devices.

Not remotely bothered about the no power off.
I have the XM-4s, they’re not comparable, APM outclass them by a huge margin

Apple missed the mark on these. No off/on control, lighting connector instead of USB-C and the purse case...I really want over ear headphones so I'm hopeful Gen 2 address the things I didn't like about Gen1.

$400 or so would make it a good stretch buy if you were considering the Sony or Bose, considering premium build quality

Weird purse case and no real power off makes this unattractive buy for me. I think they missed the boat somewhat on the sound signature for my taste
That’s what I’m saying. They are so insanely expensive compared to the regular crap on the market it doesn’t even make it into consideration.

I can get a pair of Sony’s (and I have!) on sale for $280. If I was a huge Apple fanboy and I wanted the Max’s i could maybe stretch it to 350 and justify paying more somehow with some bs. “Oh but it works better with Apple devices! So I’ll pay a bit more”. But $550? Nah

I live in a major European city and this is the only portable Apple product I haven’t seen even once in public. Understandably, because it’s the ultimate ‘I have more money than sense, rob me’ accessory.
Same I see regular airpods and airpod pros hundreds of times a day on my commute, haven't seen these once. Plenty off Sony xm1-4 and Bose QC's but these are a no show.

Apple should of released it at this price! Many brought something else like myself! It was overprice for want you get! No carrying hard shell case. Third party cases cost $50-$100! Controls were limited too! Weird to limited the controls, even no off/on button!

Fair, but I suppose I’d question whether I’d notice the £200 worth of difference regularly enough for it to be worth it. £350 is already at the high end for headphones, and the XM-4s are already absolutely “good enough”.

Not for me, sadly, can’t go back for comfort and sound quality reasons; XM-4s are resigned to house chore use (mowing/vacuuming).

It should also be noted that $349 is nowhere near the high end for headphones. If anything, they’re upper-low/lower-mid range
