Will this be like Homepod and they will discontinue it and introduce a cheaper Airpds Max-Mini?

The Homepod enjoyed a $100 discount at Target and other stores. That's 33% off. If the APM gets a 33% off discount, that would put it into a price range that's much more competitive ($360)

I could see them spec bumping these to deal with the "can't even play Apple Music Lossless" thing...which is a bit embarrassing really.

Come on Black Friday sales!!!!!!$350

If they really wanted to sell a lot of these, $349 should have been the price.

A nice full $100 above the MSRP on APP (which are honestly also overpriced - should be $199)

After they announced that you can’t use them to listen to the very high quality lossless format on a Mac, even hooked on with a cable, I think they shot themselves in the foot. Massive cans limited by Bluetooth audio.
They're very tempting at this price, but I will try to control myself and wait until Apple comes out with a version that can play the lossless format.

$450 is fair IMO. $100 more than the Sony’s with much heavier and needlessly overbuilt more premium materials. (Albeit no proper case or 3.5mm adapter that both come with the Sony’s.)

Slight tweak - :D

In all seriousness, I really hope they release a version of these that are lighter.

I realize some users don't find it to be a problem....but man...I was at Best Buy the other day and decided to spend a fresh 20mins with them again (former owner - sold mine) and good lord - I was SO happy to get that boat anchor off my head.

It's subjective - I get it - I just hate it.
Sounds great - way too heavy for me.

For me, over ears are mainly used for travel and so the weight/comfort piece has to be totally ace...
and the APMs just aren't (for me - and my head)

Who on earth is buying these?

I've wondered that also.

I was in contact with a guy on craigslist and Facebook (same guy/listing on both) near me who had a pair of sealed black ones that he started at $480 and about 2 months later (just last week) he finally sold them for $340

Had Apple eliminate the own goals here - real case, off button, instead of getting cute and innovative with dumb features nobody wants, then they'd be completely justifiable at 450ish. It puts them in the category of the H9 3rd gen, which is a fair comparable.

One aspect of this that's nice to see....is a touch of humble pie for Apple.

Both the HomePod and the Airpod Max are products where their ego got way out over its skis in terms of MSRP.

It's refreshing to see the market correcting them

Yep. I bet they’ve got a crap ton sitting in warehouses because they made too many and not many people think they are worth as much as they charge.

They have "top men" working on the merchandising.

TOP....MEN.....

I like my blue AirPods Max. It can handle any kind of audio like a pro.

These headphones sound good wireless. Next generation AirPods Max could include a special lossless cable for lossless connection to iPhone.

I love mine. Ever since the firmware update my battery life had been superb. If I use them for 2-3 hours a day they will easily last over week in between charges. I’m not mad at the smart case. I prefer something lighter to use at home. I have another case to use when traveling anyways. I do wish they would have been slightly cheaper. 399 or 449 would have been better, but oh well. #yolo

For some reason, on the more overpriced Apple products, my mind always wanders to the question:

“what original MSRP would we have to get to before we’d find a nobody defending the price/value?”

Like...I think for AirPods Max, we would have to have an MSRP around $1500 USD before we would run out of people to defend the value proposition.

What do you all think?

@SFjohn

I’m glad you popped in by chance.
I honestly had you in mind a little bit because IIRC you are a big fan of the AirPods max.

What is the most you would ever pay for them?

To save a bit more, you can price match Amazon with Target and use a Target Red Card to get an additional 5% off of the price match. That's brings the price down to $453.82. The item must be sold directly by Amazon and be in stock at Target, obviously…

I was on the fence about buying them, then I heard Dolby Atmos tracks on them and was sold.

The mix on "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes is simply great.
Not Worth $453.82!!! IMHO Maybe $199.99 without Tax then I would think about it...
