Amazon and B&H Photo today have every color of Apple's AirPods Max headphones priced at $519.99, down from $549.00. For many colors of the AirPods Max, this is the best price that we've ever tracked across all Apple retailers.

I really dislike Apple's new pricing model.

Price sky high to get people who aren't price conscious, wait 6 months and then price lower, wait another 6 months and price even lower still...
Ummm...this is not Apple selling these. This is Amazon and B&H discounting them to attract people to buy AirPods Max from them, with the goal of people buying additional products from them. Its an approach that has been around for forever. Apple has nothing to do with this.

AirPods Pro have gone from $250 to $200 and we know there is still enough margin for retailers to make a profit at that price. I imagine the AirPods Max have even more margin. I'm going to wait until these get cheaper. My Bose QC 35 II are still holding up pretty well. I just need to get new cups and those will cost about $35. So, no rush.

This 100000%. These aren't worth the price anymore with that news. Well these weren't worth the price to begin with lol.
Your opinion on if they are worth the price or not is your own opinion, but if you understand anything about lossless codecs, then you should never have expected wireless headphones to be compatible with that format. Not to mention the fact that it has been proven that most people can not hear the difference to begin with. But, I suppose all that doesn't matter when people don't bother to understand how it all works to begin with!

This seems to be following a similar trend of discounts as the HomePod. I wouldn’t be surprised if these face a similar, if not worse, fate. Given the price is more than twice their competitions near performance matching models it seems doomed to fail. Rightfully so.

At least the HomePod provided a significant advantage in audio quality to help justify a higher price. These just brim with arrogance stemming from the success of AirPods.

There was a time when retailers didn't get to discount Apple products unless Apple gave it the OK. A practice that we still see with many brands, and I would hope, with Apple as well.

I'm a bit confused about this. Why is lossless not possible over bluetooth?

Bluetooth 5 supports up to 2Mbps. Even saying 50% efficiency due to less than ideal situations, 1Mbps should be plenty for lossless audio. Uncompressed CD bitrate was a hair over 1Mbps, but with lossless compression you can get it to ~400-800Kbps pretty easily. Apple's own ALAC can do this, as well as FLAC and APE and many others. In other words, there is plenty of overhead on bluetooth to transfer lossless audio.

Perhaps the SoC in the headphones cannot decode those lossless codecs. That is certainly possible, but it has nothing to do with wireless.

I understand how it works. I never expected lossless in wireless. What you don't understand is it doesn't work in wired mode either.

Apple hasn't lowered the prices. Resellers have. That's been the case of every single Apple product as long as they've existed. Nothing has changed in their pricing model.

I need to slow down reading...I read that as discontinued 🤣
Get down to $499 and I might be interested honestly $449 would be better😎

I tried them on at an Apple Store last week when Best Buy had them $19.01 off.

They sounded good, but NOT $500+ good.

To be fair, I’m 53 and my ears aren’t as good as they used to be. :(

You’re not missing anything.
It’s a placebo and people are trying to convince themselves it is worth what they paid.

The build quality is fantastic but on the merits of sound quality it should be about a $350 product, max.

I tried some open box ones from bestbuy for $500. Minor scuff from where the cans bang together. I liked them, but not at $500 especially with minor cosmetic damage.

Now with brand new ones being $20 more, I’ll just wait until the better discounts start rolling in later this year. If I can snag a brand new pair for $450-$490, then that’s fine with me.
I’m willing to pay $150 TOPS more for the AppleTax and better integration with iOS.
