Yeah, I too think these should have started around $399 for it to have ANY traction. It's a solution to a problem that hasn't been asked. A very good sounding, extremely high priced, premium feeling non-folding wireless headphone with no off button, and silly case.

Home was praised for its sound quality when it came out. But the pricing started too high, and then was reduced. And then vendors discounted it deeply to $199. And it still didn't sell enough. So that says to me they overengineered it and overpriced it.

This feels exactly the same.

I really dislike Apple's new pricing model.

Price sky high to get people who aren't price conscious, wait 6 months and then price lower, wait another 6 months and price even lower still...
Add another six months.....discontinued . I really am interested him them, being a headphone freak. But, I've jumped into the Apple pool buying the M1 MacMini, and the 2021 iPP. Both sort of milestones with the M1 chip. But, for these headphones I think I'll wait for second generation. The lossless development makes me want to wait and see if Apple figures out the BT barrier (or an alternative) to getting lossless to their own headphones. Unlikely, I know.

Might buy some if they are $300. I bought them at launch to try it out, it's just not worth it so I returned them.

If you’re buying AirPod max headphones you aren’t concerned about saving $30 because you already frivolously spend.

What are some of your favorite headphones? What do you think of the Audio Technica R70x?

Audio Technica R70x
My current headphones are:

Sennheiser HD-650 with custom cables
Jabra 65T
Bowers & Wilkins P9
Bowers & Wilkins P7
Audeze LCD-2
Etymotic (very old in-ear)
Master & Dynamic MW-60 (just gifted to son-in-law) :)

I do use a Schiit Asgard 3 with DAC card for desktop use with the Sennheiser and Audeze headphones. They sound great with Tidal streaming music service.

The Audio Technica R70x headphones look very nice. I'll have to read reviews of it vs. the Sennheiser HD-650.

These things will end up getting discontinued like the HomePod because no one wants to pay that insane price for them.

I still have not seen a single person who has them here in Canada.

When they were first shown, I have to admit I was very interested in them. But compared to my current Bowers & Wilkins P7, (and past Bose headphones) I just couldn't justify them for the price when compared to them.

I guess I really need to hear them in person to see if it is worth the $$$$ for me. Has any buyer out there been blown away by their sound? If so compared to what brand headphones?

I hesitate to say that I regret purchasing mine. I never use them, and I get odd headaches from the noise cancelation. I really gotta offload these things, but everyone on OfferUp is like, “will you take $14? No? OK, how about $12?” It’s so obnoxious. Can iOS 15 introduce an electric shock field or a strangulation button? 🔴🥊

I had the same issue with the APMs -- it's almost like it was "too good" with too much suction or something.

It worked very well at cancelling noise, but at the expense of comfort (for me at least)

I’m hoping you’re kidding. The AirPod Pro Max are over the ear headphones. Constructed mostly of metal instead of plastic but many say they’re overpriced.

For the record, I absolutely was *not* kidding, and WOW! I’m not even trying to sound … I mean, I don’t even know a word to use here. I’m genuinely flabbergasted, shocked and amazed that we have come to this as a society. After taxes…wow…$549 for headphones! It’s beyond absurd and obscene to me, and that’s not a joke. Just wow.
