I have 8gb and honestly it's enough for me. Maybe in 25 years it won't be enough but for the foreseeable future it's gonna be aight. No I don't edit 12K raw videos on a MBA.
I felt the same since I don't do any 4k editing or any editing but I had to get the 16GB MBP model as I will have this laptop for 3-4 years at least. I saw a YouTube review where running your MacBook M1 to an external display, a lot of ram can be utilized as well as on the GPU side so it was overall beneficial to have 16GB. That and having lack of ram phobia in the future persuaded me to go for it.

TBH I had a 16gb/1tb but the unit I ordered was badly assembled and so I returned it. Since I didn't want to wait for ever again, I just picked one in the store with 8gb/512. It's all good. In 3-4 years the battery will probably be shot anyway and I'll just sell this unit and pick whatever is on sale at that time, which will be immensely better than this OG Apple silicon.

I know it's weird but other than the speed, my favorite part on this computer is actually the keyboard. It's so amazing! I love the clicks, the dept, the sound it makes. Just makes me wanna write!
