Am I the only one who likes the glossy look of the regular glass better? It looks super sleek imo.

The glossy looks very nice indeed. And the newer display which can hit 600 nits is bright enough to mitigate reflections.

Still $500 too expensive. Apple can’t simply charge 50% more than the competition for a commodity product (newsflash: most Apple display panels are made by Samsung!) Every 4K 60fps panel made by Samsung of a given SKU is going to be identical whether Dell or HP or Apple uses it.

I am not willing to pay an extra $500 to $1000 for a stand and/or wheels.

I can get a 77” OLED TV for under $1000 right now. A 27” LCD monitor that costs double that should at least include 6K and 120fps.

Once again monitors cost more than comparable TVs… because DisplayPort? 🤣

Please. First of all, Apple has much higher quality standards than Dell. I have seen the $700 Dell Ultrasharp 4K (not even 5K) in person and it has all kinds of uniformity issues. And Dell uses PWM flickering in their display, while Apple doesn’t, which is quite significant if you use this as a WFH display.

The closest competitor is the $1300 LG Ultrafine, and just like Dell, the LG Ultrafine uses PWM flickering. And considering the reliability issues of this monitor and the poor build quality, the Apple Studio Display is priced fairly.

And you will find that most monitors don’t have 100W charging capabilities to charge a 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro like the Apple Studio Display does, it’s quite an unique thing that is hard to find. Yes, the $700 Dell Ultrasharp can do this too, but as I said, have fun playing the panel lottery to deal with Dell their low standards on displays.

Amazon is not technically a retailer but a portal for people to sell things on. As a result, I've run into a few cases where companies would not support/ warranty their product because it was purchased there. In one case I bought a book (Amazon was originally a book company) and the publisher wouldn't honour a deal on an eBook because I bought the book from Amazon. I've seen refurbished products and Chinese knock offs being sold as new, people selling products 2-3x the normal price hoping others don't know any better. Returns are a pain in the ass and you have to pay for shipping to return it. Amazon is good for cheap stuff where you can afford to lose the money if the product sucks. It's basically one step up from buying on eBay (been ripped off too many times on eBay). I would never buy from Ali Express.

To each their own. Some people value the lowest price as paramount, other prefer to pay extra and get good service, support, and peace of mind.

Counter-point: if you've already decided that you need the item with order number MMYW3LL/A, then it's worth considering purchasing it from a retailer with a better price and faster delivery.

This may not be the Amazon, of course, but they're worth consideration, no?

Exactly. Who the hell is spending $2,000 on a monitor. Relax Apple, you aren't that special anymore.

People wanted a new 27" iMac and Cook said, no problem. Buy my monitor for $2,000 then the actual computer for another $1400 or whatever it is. Apple has become the epitome of a sleaze ball car salesman.
At least this monitor comes with a stand, which is certainly a major improvement over Pro XDR. Give Tim some credit :)

Why? No place easier to return stuff than Amazon…
Actually, its a pain to return Apple stuff on Amazon. I just returned some airpods and I hadn’t gotten my refund after 5 business days. I called and spoke to a rep and was told its a new policy that Apple products are inspected upon return and refunds can take up to 30 business days! Had I known this, I would have bought the airpods at Best Buy where returns are a snap regardless of Apple or not.

I am in desperate need of a 27” 5K monitor for my Mac Studio. I’m ready to move up from my 24” LG Ultrafine. I was thrilled when Samsung announced its ViewFinity S9 27” 5K Monitor earlier this year. This is the monitor that the base model of the Studio Display should have been - 4K webcam, matte finish, and a stand that can adjust for height. As a bonus it will have built in streaming apps and a remote for tv use. However, no word when it will be released. I’m tempted to buy the Studio Display at this price, but just my luck the day I buy it watch Apple announce a mini LED next gen Studio Display or Samsung announces a ship date!

Seems u dont know on amazon there are 3 types of items:

Sold by amazon
Sold by store X and fullfilled by amazon
Sold and shipped by store X

Only type 3 is risky...

Btw amazon IS a retailer. Only later allowed other sellers to sell on the platform.

And just to end this answer, i must say that’s all about being optimistic or pessimistic. Im optimistic, so i buy at lowest price. Rarely i have troubles, and if something wrong happens rarely i dont get money back. And even if i dont, that money loss its nothing compared to the money ive saved. Being pessimistic by buying from official resellers, or even worse from APPLE STORE, and adding warranty extensions etc, its a continuos money loss imho.

Yes I am aware. I would probably trust something sold by Amazon more than others. Still, there are the issues of returns and support if something goes wrong. Also, having things delivered to/ left at your door can be a trying experience if something gets stolen or goes missing. If one hasn't had issues with Amazon, good for them, but might not represent the experiences of others.

There is a fine line between pessimism and realism. The only difference between the two is weather or not the realist is accurate in their claims.

amazon its "well" known for its easy refund policy. in fact years ago there were massive scams again it. this is the biggest of them:

if u are afraid of not being refunded by amazon while being their customers from many years then you re a 100% pessimist :)
and yes, i knew u will say "im realist, not pesimist" as every pesimist says the same :))))))
