Fair point, I haven’t actually seen a nano textured apple display in front of me, just (very briefly) someone else’s XDR with it and didn’t go deep into evaluating it.

I always have one screen at an angle that happens to get some sunlight reflection but “I’ll just close the blinds for those hours” seemed the cheaper sensible alternative and didn’t think of the potential of a less sharp image, maybe it’s just fine as it is then.
I tried the nano and couldn’t do it. Yes it handles glare well but at a huge trade off in my opinion.

Can't believe it's taken me this long to sign up to post comments, been on this website for over 10 years. Anyway, I have had every Thunderbolt bolt and LG Ultrafine 5K monitor and bought the Nano Apple Studio Display last week. First time using a nano screen. Since using it, I have to stay I am impressed with the anti reflection. I shoot and edit professionally so this has been a nice feature to have, I finally don't see myself on the screen, so much less distracting and great on retouch detail. It maybe not as "sharp" but it's PLENTY sharp enough for a professional editor like myself. Just wanted to share my thoughts since I've seen a lot of conflicting opinions. At least Apple gave us a monitor and some options to choose from, better than having no Apple monitors at all for years, that sucked. Cheers.

I wonder if this is the first evidence that Amazon knows what the price is going to be for the Samsung 27" 5K Viewfinity s9 (HDR600) thunderbolt display with matte finish (no charge) vs Studio Display ($1599) with nano-textured glass ($1899)?
Why would retailers discount it now vs when there's actual sales competition?

Definitely not for everybody though, this is likely the first comment that talks positively about this display.
Oh I'm sure it's a nice display. It's just too expensive. It's also a bit on the small side for me - I'd want three of them.

And by "three" I mean three at each desk where I work regularly - I have three desks. So yeah - no way I'm spending that kinda money.

While the Studio Display has been seeing higher discounting looking at this google shopping link, this event shows its more to the advantage of a larger vendors like Amazon being able to offer better discounts to move slow moving stock for a sell though of so many units this wish to move on.

I also see outside the pairing of Studio Mac with Studio Display IMHO not a good pairing except for headless macs. (Mac Studio MAX, Ultra, M2/M2 Pro Mac Mini only). The various more performance oriented, higher selling laptops all have build in spatial audio speakers and HD FaceTime cameras. The iMac 24" is another example of where the Studio Display edition feature set is not doing you any favors.

Say what you want, people obviously love this display just as people have always loved Apple displays. They’re not for everyone, nor have have they ever been. I just find it odd that people are complaining about price now. Historically speaking, Apple displays have always been expensive and with just as much functionality as the studio display. It would be the same story 20 years ago as today. If you can’t afford it, get over it. Those who bought it did so for a reason.

No disagreement, its more to the lack of competition in the present marketplace for 5K displays. The heavier discount is great news for people that want to save $549 off. I don't fault Apple for pricing it higher with what it incorporates. It does make some of the previous 5K displays look bad.

At that price point and missing the features for microLED / Local dimming / 120hz refresh is just an overpriced Apple logo monitor.
Patiently waiting for this or to get a good idea when it’ll release. Maybe WWDC!

Except no other monitor can deliver this image quality. Trust me I've tried the other non-Apple monitor YouTube and the Internet have been trying to promote as Apple alternatives and none of them can compete with the ASD.

Of course microLED local dimming 120h will be even better but (1) the product isn't ready yet so this is the only reasonable choice (2) it will be more expensive so you can't really compare apples and oranges.

Or maybe not. And they might even not see the light of day before 2024.

So until then the ASD is really doing a great job.

Also I will only purchase if they release a larger version of the XDR, which is likely, if they release XDR v2 in different sizes.

That said this 27" ASD is already pretty big in my room setting and fitting my desk perfectly. I guess I would turn the ASD vertically then and use it as a secondary monitor for emails and stuff; and buy a larger desk to fit horizontally the largest ever 6/8k Apple screen released.

I will need a larger size to be part of the reasons that make me buy it (form factor), so as to have a very large main display which would make the ASD look smaller in contrast.

Exactly. Anyone complaining about Apple prices should not be an Apple customer in the first place, and move on with another company. Price elasticity for such products is extremely low for a reason, they are geared toward niche customers who don't really care about the price because the associated value, quality and continuity in the same ecosystem (both software and hardware) they carry is an absolute must and there's no alternative to it.

I don't care about the price.

I'm going to sound like an old man here, but I miss the days when the Thunderbolt Display was $999 CDN. I'd be interested in this monitor if it was more reasonable, its $2k here in Canada.

I'm still using my TB Display as my primary monitor too!

Living in the UK I find news of these price drops worthless. There is very rarely any price reductions on any Apple products from amazon.

totally agree - love my studio monitors. However I bought the nano texture and sent it back and much happier with the standard due to the sharper image.

Being able to control the light and reflections in my studio, I went with the standard display glass.

Apple's Studio Display puts a smile on my face everyday using it to post-process my photographs.

In general...many people on the internet love to complain about almost anything. Helps them feel better and get through the day.

All three of mine with adjustable stand have worked flawless around my XDR. Sure the XDR is better but it’s also three times more. But totally worth it. But using an XDR every day is the bomb.

Thanks for sharing. I’m glad I’m not the only one pairing the studio display next to the XDR (one of each, in my case). Your post gave me that inner validation I needed. lol

I think it was a mistake for apple to include mics, cameras, speakers, and an A13 in the monitor. It is unnecessary ...but to justify a higher price. Just do a 30 or 32" quality monitor without all the extras and give us a lower price.
My wishful thinking is:
current XDR drops to $2k and Nano/Stand options at $300 each.
New XDR at 34"+ 7K at $5k and the same for the options above.

Still expensive, but I don't see Apple slashing the prices for the new tech on the XDR 2.0.
I am only hoping for a more attractive offering on a larger than 27" display without completely destroying the bank. lol

I can't stand working on a dungeon of darkness, that's why the matte option is so appealing to me. My office is bright and that helps me with my mood. lol
I still have two 30" ACDs and I love that matte screen. I have an MBP running and the screen glare on that is awful.
