Sure, I agree. I’d love it if I never had to charge it period. But the fact that it has to be charged shouldn’t be the only reason you don’t buy one. The inconvenience is extremely minimal in every day living.
I have one. I'd just prefer it to last longer.

I asked a couple people in the Apple Store how their series 5 (always on) compared with that and they said the battery life in the series 5 is unquestionably less and there's no way you'd ever get 2 days out of a single charge.

yup. i used to get a solid 2 days out of a series 3 by charging it ~20m every morning while i showered, etc. the series 4 was a little worse and my series 5 only goes about 1.5 days like this. i use the watch for sleep tracking, so i basically wear it all the time. the always on display is nice but probably has more utility for someone that meets with other people a lot and wants to inconspicuously check the time. anyway i held on to the series 4 and i just alternate them.

i'm hoping series 6 has more health features

Just bought a 40mm Space Gray for $299, perfect as I was looking to buy one for my dad.
Quite a considerable discount for a new Apple product.

I too have a series 4 and I mostly just use it to view the time - my biggest wish is for an always on display. I can often get 2 days out of it on a single charge. I asked a couple people in the Apple Store how their series 5 (always on) compared with that and they said the battery life in the series 5 is unquestionably less and there's no way you'd ever get 2 days out of a single charge. I also know a thing or two about lithium ion battery technology (having designed chargers for them) - fast charging, overcharging and letting them run flat does a number on their lifetime. If you want to wear the watch all day and use it for sleep tracking then the only solution is a fast charge while you're in the shower or some other such scenario. It's doable, but comes with a downside for the battery.

There's another option. Buy a cheap Series 3 for bed, swap watches when you wake up. My routine has been so scrambled by working from home and almost never leaving that I dusted off my Series 2 for when my Series 4 is exhausted. As an aside, I find myself wearing the 2 a lot more than the 4 because battery life seems to be considerably better, which I don't remember observing when I got the 4. Might be time for a new one...

Do you wear your watch to bed? If not, then you take it off, and instead of laying it on your dresser, you drop it on the puck.

I wear mine in bed. I currently have a Garmin watch, I swim/bike/run with it (well, not now due to C-19) but I also don’t take it off for the night, I like to see my sleep patterns and resting HR.
My Garmin lasts about 8-10 days on a charge. I’d buy Appe watch if it lasted 3-4 days even, but it would be hard for me to get used to charging daily. Obviously Garmin doesn’t have many features, but it shows notifications and tracks my activities so it will remain my watch for now.
I wish battery tech improved to the point of having Apple Watch last a week on a single charge. Then I’m sold.
