Why do you keep saying this again and again knowing full well that the products were equally mediocre in 2019?
In 2019, the iPhone 11 (and the P/M) was much bigger a step ahead on anything Xs than the 14 P/M over the 13 P/M. (let alone the poor iPhone 13s, sorry, 14)

I was the only anti-WFH guy here. Now there are many since I started making people aware of WFH issues.

When I started posting about anti-WFH culture, I was getting 80% downvotes. Now it's an even 50/50 on upvote/downvote. People are definitely noticing the delays, uninspired product updates, and major bugs.
Correlation =/= causation.

You've probably been blocked/ignored by the people who previously downvoted you.

You also sound jealous.

You guys know you aren't obligated to buy the product every year, right?

I think people don’t understand that with these gradual updates every year versus a big update every four years or so, it allows people to buy the item at any time without worrying of a big change and their current item becoming obsolete. Apple could just come up with an Apple Watch every four years and make this big change but imagine if you bought the Apple Watch 3 right before the Apple Watch 8 came out. Obviously the numbers wouldn’t be 3 and 8 but I’m just using current model numbers as an example of the change. With incremental changes you don’t have to worry too much because while you might be missing a few features but it’s still going to be relatively good.

My biggest comparison is cars. They come up with a new car every single year but no one says oh my God I just bought the 2022 Ford Mustang and now Ford is coming out with a 2023 model. How do they expect me to afford this? It’s ridiculous they change it every year.

My Series 5 is now in its fourth year and I was planning to upgrade this year but the price increases and the very small tech advances have meant I’ve saved quite a lot of money. I usually upgrade every three years but this is looking like a four year cycle this time around.

All these things existed before COVID. Maybe you just didn't notice. These are matured products, so of course and with a yearly updates, you get some un-inspired products. Isn't just happening at Apple, but all over the phone/watch market.

A bit surprising at this point. Was thinking of upgrading my 6 but will probably skip and go to the 9. Perhaps a few others are doing the same.
This screams overpriced unusable product
LOL, yeah, that's why Apple sells so many watches.

It does point to a mediocre update (like the base 14 iPhone update) along with all the talk of recessions etc. seems like people may not be buying things in numbers like they would have, say a year ago.

The Apple Watch Series 7 was also heavily reduced by third party retailers. I bought mine for $100 less in Amazon and it just had come up like 3 months before.

That’s only because there was a redesign. If iPhone 14 Pro would have been redesigned the perception would be different.

This isn't really unexpected, we saw it with the S7/SE rather quickly. Apple devices typically hold onto their resale value, but the Apple Watch hasn't for years. It will be interesting to see how the Ultra prices go as if it continues like the Apple S series watches, we could see discounts at retailers by the end of the year. Or maybe not, and because it is actually different the price will stay up.

Saw a non athlete wearing the ultra yesterday at Disneyland.

Looked completely ridiculous.

The ultra is a big watch folks. Think about your purchase.
I know. It is a big watch, but it also comes with most meaningful improvements. I just hope Series 9 could take a few of Ultra design elements to its standard Watches (i.e: flat crystal, raised lip, protruded crown guard).

I also had the Series 5, it’s fine and I’m okay with missing a few running metrics. Problem is the battery health isn’t as it used to be.

Plus the waterproofing is getting stale, running with it on a rainy day could make it glitchy and unusable for days.

This.

There’s no obligation to release a product every year. Steve Jobs didn’t do that ever but with the iPhone
There is a huge obligation to release a new phone every year, do you know what would happen to the stock if they didn't. They just don't need to release a phone in every category, a new iPhone Pro, sure but not a new regular iPhone.

Just picked one up to replace my grandmother’s Series 3 - which is borderline unusable at this point (it’s a 38mm non cellular - have to keep resetting it to update). Was going to get a refurb series 7 but the only ones available are more $$$ than the series 8 with a discount.

My series 5 Ti is fine, a bit slow but more than quite usable. The upgrade works out well, though, as I’ll use it and send my Watch out for a battery replacement.

Looks like I’ll be scouring eBay next year for a Series 7 Ti, though - the SS is a bit heavy for my tastes and use case.

Definitely no. For example, the then-added UWA camera was a MAJOR step ahead. And also the much better dynamic range etc. (mostly achieved thru software, of course).

I’m sure said individual took your perception into account when they spent their money on the watch they wanted to buy 🙄 Bless your heart dear.
