Saw a non athlete wearing the ultra yesterday at Disneyland.

Looked completely ridiculous.

The ultra is a big watch folks. Think about your purchase.

But just like so many things they did this year, this gives them an obvious upgrade next year. I’m not buying a new Apple Watch until I can get an Ultra style in at least 45mm, but that tech will have to trickle down to the smaller ones.

Also if it’s doing the job and they don’t mind the size, who cares. It’s possible it will always be best in a size like that simply because of battery.

How do you know this person was a “non athlete”? Did you have a long chat about their personal physical goals? Are you assuming because they were over weight? How do you know that person hasn’t been steadily loosing weight where before they couldn’t even walk around Disneyland?! How do you know this purchase wasn’t one of those that kicks off a huge body transformation. Why don’t you mind your own business, buy your own products, and keep your opinions about other peoples lives to yourself? Or did it make you feel better to drop that nugget in a macrumors post because you’re jealous and can’t afford the ultra for yourself?

I see people wearing Submariners who don't scuba dive.
I see people wearing Speedmasters who aren't astronauts.
I see people wearing Ball watches who don't work on the railroad.
I see people wearing Bell & Ross watches who aren't pilots.
See where this is going? Who cares? Wear a watch you like and mind your own business.

It was a mom not in the greatest shape. The ultra isn’t expensive. It isn’t meant for the unfit according to apple marketing.

Im feeling attacked.

The watch looks ridiculous on a small wrist. Am I okay to say that?

I would say the same thing if she was wearing a garmin fenix.

$349 is definitely the cheapest that I’ve seen Amazon price an Apple Watch relative to when it was released - less than a month ago for the Series 8 - compared to Amazon’s discounts on Apple watches in previous years

I’m waiting until black friday to see what kind of deals there will be on the Series 8 - In past years, I’ve gotten it for $340 but hopefully Amazon does a deal for $300. That would be awesome

Go Ultra or wait for Series 9.. the new default Series 8 just makes no sense at all. Might as well save some money and buy Series 7.
If you want crash detection and don’t care for the Ultra or an iPhone 14, the Series 8 is the only way to go… ⚠️🚗

If I had a nickel for everyone who said this about Apple. Tim Cook is going to bankrupt Apple. Etc. etc. etc. etc..

You may not like Apple, but they’re not in decline. Sorry to disappoint you.
Decline doesn’t mean going out of business. Steve Ballmer led a company in decline… losing influence/relevance, lack of innovation, always one step behind the competition, etc. but did you know that MSFT was still growing financially?

Big companies, especially one with strong fundamentals like Apple & Microsoft, can take years before poor leadership and the rot within the company begins to materialize in their financials. And you do realize, Apple’s stock price has been financially engineered for years, right? It’s not reflective of organic growth, like Tesla.

Well, I guess by your definition they’ll still be in declin when they reach $2 trillion. I’m not sure what you mean by losing influence or relevance but sales are not down so that’s what the company is for. Maybe on TikTok they’re not being featured quite as much so that’s what you mean by in decline?

Seriously no reasonable person thinks Apple is in decline. Some people might hope for that. I’ve always taped. Google would decline but no that’s not going to happen either.

I was all set to buy the SS S7/8 but with my S4 still going strong, I don't really see the point..
I'll keep using my 7 for another year. I actually own two. I but two every other year so that I have one to wear while the other is charging. They still last just about two days each on a charge.

I wish there was those types of discounts here in the UK. The series 8 launched at £419 (previously £379 for the S7) and the price has held firm. Even the S7 has only received very small discounts at this point.

Nobody wants it. As an owner of a S7, I was not tempted. Even if you must have the absolute latest for the sake of it, the S8 is now second fiddle to the Ultra and therefore unacceptable to the must have latest and greatest Pro Max brigade

Honestly you should feel attacked because what you said was ridiculous and you were rightfully called out on it. Mind the business that pays you, and let people buy what they want.

aW aesthetics are subjective.

You can say whatever you want, even if you're only correct for yourself.

I swear, 1/3 of MacRumors arguments could be avoided if people just added "I think" to their posts which sound like statements. And another 1/3 could be avoided if people stopped treating opinion pieces like concrete statements.

Yup. I was waiting for this to come out to upgrade from s3, when I saw EU price went up and not much difference in featured I just looked for a deal on an s7 and got that. No reason to pay more for an s8 🤷‍♂️

Same here. Waited a while for the S8. After launch, it was clear the S8 has no changes (apart from the temperature sensor and crash emergency call). So I got a new S7 for good price. Happy with it, only ever had a S0 right from its launch seven years ago.

Unless you're female, the S8 offers no big extra value.

To all the people here who claim getting a S7 is hard because Apple doesn't sell it directly anymore: look a little further. There are lots (LOTS) of vendors still selling the S7 new, at increasingly discounted prices. In Europe you get the same warranty and direct repair service from Apple even you buy at other vendors. The only thing is, that in The Netherlands you're forced to buy online (even if you want to support local merchants), because most physical stores have a very limited return policy (they will use any excuse to not give your money back: like calling Apple Watch a hygiene product that can't be returned). Online stores are forced to have a no-questions-asked money back return period, which is your only option if you want to try out different bands with different watch cases.

I still own the model 5 - and version 8 doesn‘t make me feel like I want to own this kind of thing. My AW5 is a nice little toy. I like to pay with it, my phone is always turned silent, since I feel incoming calls/messages on my wrist. I record workouts with it. All of those things delight me. But:

- Battery life didn‘t impove. 3-5 days without a bulky „ultra“ would be welcome.
- Connectivity didn‘t improve. Still caged in Apples universe, no chance to share my heart rate or to connect other wearable devices. Did you now that Apple doesn‘t build a bicycle computer? And you can not connect to e.g. something like a Wahoo or Garmin. Ridiculous.
- It has a bigger display, like the 7. But when I first looked at it, I couldn‘t tell the difference.
- Even the design hasn‘t changed. A little bit more edgy, flat design? A little bit more graduated, no more mickey mouse watch faces? Well, maybe.

I waited for a watch with always on display. This is what I expected from the beginning. The AW 5 is good, but it didn‘t improve (much) over the last years.

I suppose there wasn't much of an upgrade because of supply chain issues and covid. Still running good with the S4. Last time only upgraded the very first Watch, when it didn't get any major updates anymore.

This is like iPhone 14… it’s an AW7 with a different name. It was doomed to see lackluster sales from the beginning. Apple is in a dangerous phase where they’re trying to grow profits by extracting more from its customers instead of providing more value. That usually signals a company in decline.
I don’t necessarily disagree, but what features are the Apple Watch Series 7/8 missing? They are hands down the best smartwatch on the market. For those like my who wanted a more robust design with some additional sport watch capability, they have the Ultra, which is amazing. I think the 14 was more disappointing than the Series 8.

come on man. Lighten up. Lol

If my mom was wearing the watch I’d say the same thing.

Anyways no moms were hurt in the making of this post.

I guess there are a lot of unreasonable people then. Either that or you didn’t read a word I wrote.

Rising sales does not mean the company is doing great. They have a stranglehold on the market and a strong ecosystem, just like Microsoft had/has in PCs and productivity apps. Notice how even with Apple’s massive resources, they were never able to make a dent in that market? Yeah, that’s Apple’s position in smartphones. They’re like a utility at this point. That doesn’t mean the company isn’t declining in areas like product quality, innovation, risk-taking, and sales growth… from triple digits a decade ago to single digits today. Their saving grace is that their competition is even less competent.
