Does this increase probability of new 16” MBP being announced at WWDC on the 22nd?

My MBP 16inch is still having Kernel Panics when I put it into standby... It is a good device and the price is ok although I'm using it with "KeepingYouAwake" and on charge until this is fixed...

I guess he wanted to say, that Microsoft is asking a higher price for less hardware and screen size, so that the MBP offers more for the same price. (included macOS)
If you're having these kernel panics you should return your mac to Apple, since you are about the only one having them. Unless you have stored some rubbish on your mac that causes these problems. I that case you shouldn't blame Apple.

i wish someone who didn't charge tax had this deal going on.

Every retailer is required to charge sales tax in every state that has one. B&H has a credit card that refunds the equivalent of tax.

There's nothing low about a $2000 laptop that will be obsolete in a few years
I've never used an Apple laptop for anything less than 6 years, at which point I give it to a family member or friend, who usually gets another 2-3 years out of it. Yeh, so $2000/8 years = $250/yr for premium laptop. You must be thinking about a "PC" laptop, which I agree is worthless in 2 years, 3 tops.

B&H is cheaper for most when sales tax is considered. In my state B&H would save $100 over this or Costco’s price.

It would be a great deal if the MBP16 wouldn't use Apple's T2 chip which seems to be broken.

Broken how? I use it every day on my 16" MacBook Pro. Both in Bootcamp (Windows) and Mac, yet to see an issue?

Military bases sell them tax free and price match Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart.

I’m on my 2016 MBP. Girlfriend using her 2013 model. One of my production systems is a 2013 Mac Pro. All running very well still. The moment I feel my computer is slowing me down, I’ll buy a new one. This is not the case so far. So I agree. 2 year old tech is not obsolete these days, and the returns someone gets by staying on the bleeding edge are minimal these days compared to a decade or two ago.

I am also having these annoying kernel panics. sometime up to 10 a day.

"Few" meaning like 8 years?
"Few" meaning when the warranty expires, and then any one of the soldered/glued together components breaks, resulting in a repair more expensive than the second hand value of the laptop. Unfortunately, the 8 year lifetime of Apple laptops has passed, my friend.

By that logic, all portable laptops and tablets last only as long as their warranty.

Also, you said "obsolete," which has a specific meaning, and it's not "when the warranty expires."

Why? As much as it would be nice to have Ryzen CPUs, the macOS optimizations that Apple has been building on for several years with Intel CPUs wouldn't apply to Ryzen.

They've already been neglecting macOS for a while, I don't see them refocusing on macOS to optimize it for Ryzen, especially since they're working on ARM support for their upcoming Macs with ARM CPUs.

This is the redesign, a speed bump is likely later this year but don't expect any more redesigns for the next few years. I suspect the next redesign would be the ARM redesign in 2022 or later.

Not sure I understand, are you referring to user-replaceable memory/disks? Yea, that's extremely unlikely to ever happen. Even the rest of the industry is moving toward the same soldiered ram/disk for laptops. ThinkPads are starting that move as well.

As mentioned, this is the new redesign.
Because intel is incompetent. That's the only reason I need.

Amazon has returned the 512GB 16-inch MacBook Pro (16GB RAM, 2.6GHz Intel Core i7) to its low price of $2,099.99, down from an original price of $2,399.00. Amazon is automatically discounting the notebook to $2,199.00, and then once you add it to your cart, you'll see an additional $99.01 taken off at checkout.

Yes, for Apple laptops, that is my logic, and it is actually my point exactly. Good luck with your 2016+ MB lasting 8 years. It also probably goes for other brands of laptops that don't have upgradeable parts, but I'm not sure. Phones seem to have affordably replaceable screens and batteries, which seem to be the parts that break, and I presume tablets are similar, but I'm not sure.

Eight years is exactly how long I’ve had my mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I finally put an SSD in it about a year and a half ago and it was like a new machine. As much as I want a new one so a program like Handbrake will fly, I’m still OK for another six months, at least.

I think you're wrong.

Apple does better than every other company in fixing known design defects and extending warranties when needed. They're not perfect, and we can definitely name many issues Apple has ignored, but their track record is still 100x better than that of Dell, Lenovo, HP, Asus, and Acer.

With the keyboard issue and display flex cable issue addressed, I think a 2020 16" MBP can last 8 years barring accidental damage. If we later discover there is some design defect, it might be addressed by Apple with an extended warranty or it might not, but with Apple odds are better that it will than any other company.

I had a 2013 13" MBA that is still being used by a family member - 7 years after purchase and it's still fast and good (we replaced the battery a few years ago). I have a 2017 MB that was purchased in 2019, which means I am covered until 2023 with the keyboard replacement program. That's crazy good service.

If I had the need, I would not hesitate at all buying the 2020 16" MBP, having more confidence in that laptop than any other laptop of comperable specs and price.

Hey, I'm not the only one - there are also several posts here at Macrumors -- I'm not blaming Apple, I just hope that they will fix the issue that seems to be caused by the GPU driver. (An MacPros deepening the GPU model are also affected)

The machine works perfectly fine with Windows 10 and even with a complete fresh macOS it does kernel panic - so please no reason to sound "aggressive".
