dang, this is getting tempting. My mid 2011 27” imac coincidentally has been sporadically dropping internet connection - wired or wifi - and did it twice today, once when I was in the middle of writing a really long blog post. I know, I’ve gotten more than expected usage out of it, but with the exception of fast video processing (which I don’t do all that much of) it still does its job well. How fast of a computer do I need for Office apps? Still, if I’m going to buy, i’d rather load it up, storage and RAM-wise, to allow for max future expansion. If there only was a deal for 16 gigs of RAM and a 1TB SSD...

If the MBP wasn't getting a completely new industrial design, then sure - buy now. But in a few months you'll have the chance to get an M1X/M2 chip with the fresh design, possibly better screen, more ports and 14" size in the 13" chassis for likely the same money as the 13" MBP today.

We're 5 months in since the M1 13" MBP release (Nov 10). I'd wait if I could, and I can and am waiting. Plan to order the 14" M(?) MPB the day they open for purchase.

I get the shilling for some sweet affiliate revenue, but anybody buying a new MacBook today is wasting their money.
This is the perfect time to buy the new MBA and MBP. They only came out 6 months ago so prices are dropping quite a bit while still being very new. And, they aren't likely to be refreshed with the M1X/M2 laptops.

I believe only Apple is allowed to sell with more than 8GB of RAM.
It's just a supply issue. Amazon has the Intel 16GB version sold by Amazon so it's definitely allowed. They probably wanted enough supply for Prime before selling it.

Why are they discounting the new laptops? Isn't demand high and there is CPU shortage?
