Not abnormal. Amazon have regularly chopped 200-300+ of the RRP of things like MacBooks & Surface devices.

I think I paid £100 less than the RRP on the 8GB/512GB M1 MacBook Air just before Christmas and it had only been on sale for a few weeks. I was browsing at the right place, right time I guess.
Also, Prime Day is coming up, so that would be the main reason.

Apple needs to make 16GB standard now for all pro models.
My bet is when the 14/16 comes out it both will be 16GB standard. The 13" Pro will just go away. A slightly smaller bet will be when the MBA is refreshed it will be in 13 and 15" models (but both starting at 8GB).

I hope they redesign the Air as well. They’re missing a small ultraportable machine from their lineup right now, i.e. the MacBook 12” equivalent.

My guess is that with the newer chips, they’ll be able to leverage power efficiencies to shrink the MBA 13 down to about that size, eliminating the need for an even smaller design. Or they’ll retain the size of the MBA and reintroduce an ultraportable 12” machine, which would be awesome.

I love my MB 12” and am holding onto it until they come out with an ASi version.

M1 machines must not be selling too good they gotta discount them so much.

Especially the 8GB RAM model. only enough memory to do basic things.

Anyone else find this sale abnormal? It's quite a heavy discount. Do they know something we don't know about MacBooks? I'm highly aware it could be to just goose sales and offload excess inventory, but let's explore.
Notice the discount is not on the 16GB models, if those were discounted, then I would be suspicious.

You also have to realize that the minute Apple announces the new 14"/16" MBP this model's appeal plummets. Especially if some of those configurations come with 16 GB unified memory. People just want larger screens for MBP's as well as the next Apple Silicone SoC. ;)

It would be even better if Apple made a standard 16GB option. I get having an 8GB base model. I just don't get why they don't have any standard option with 16GB RAM. So, that they would be stocked in stores not just BTO.
16GB/1TB seems to be a standard stocked model at my local Apple Stores... although with no discount...

I mean stocked at third party retailers. Some of them keep a few. Since it's a custom order. There's rarely discounts.

Mostly I want them at Costco. So, I can get a free four year warranty when purchasing with a Costco card.

I did purchased recently a Smart Cover for iPad Pro ( with a similarly massive discount from Amazon UK) and despite being advertised as new it was obviously used. Ordered a replacement which came used as the first. Amazon never acknowledged any wrongdoing from their side and I actually had to pay myself for the postage to return them.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the same happens with Apple laptops: one could find himself with a used MacBook with Norwegian keyboard layout.
I hope I’m wrong but experience plus the strangely low price makes me suspicious.
Unless you purchase from a third party seller on Amazon returns and replacements are always free. I've had bad experiences with getting used stuff or wrong merchandise, but never had to pay to send it back. This discount is in-line with their past discounts and since they are an official seller now Apple will honor the warranty on their end. I see no reason to be worried.

That is a good price. It's $50 less than current educational pricing (which also includes a $50 off promo).

It's interesting that Amazon doesn't seem to offer the 16 GB model, period. As far as I could see, it's only available from 3rd party sellers (including Apple). If so, that's not by chance—Apple and Amazon must have come to some agreement on that.

Nobody is giving anything away these days so its my guess that sales are just meh. Hence the sale.
