Earlier this week we shared deals on nearly every model of Apple's 2021 MacBook Pro, with the exception of the 10-Core M1 Max, 1TB 16-inch MacBook Pro. Today, Amazon has introduced a new all-time low price on this model.

You can get the M1 Max 16-inch MacBook Pro for $2,999.99, down from $3,499.00. At $499 off, this is the best price we've ever tracked on this high-end model of the 2021 MacBook Pro, and only Amazon is offering this deal in Silver.

For more MacBook Pro deals, be sure to visit our article form earlier in the week, but note that some of these sales have since expired. Be sure to visit our full Deals Roundup to shop for even more Apple-related products and accessories.

Arg! Now it’s the head game, do I take advantage of the low price? Or do I treat this as a sign that an M2 Max is right around the corner? I don’t want to buy the old model at the last possible minute like I did buying my 15.9” MacBook Pro 1 month before they released the 16”!

Update: waited, bought the M2 Max MacBook pro. Will be a nice upgrade over my 3.5 year-old laptop.

Don't worry, there will be even more of these showing up even after the M2 models are released. Amazon seems to have a huge warehouse of these and is trying to get rid of them as soon as possible. The industry is collusion right now and is playing on everyone's emotions. That article about the M2 being delayed is probably Amazon itself planting articles through Digitimes to get you to buy this now because you feel like you can't wait any longer.

I bet you after the M2 is released, you will be able to get this same M1 Max for 2,200.

I wish Amazon would sell more configuration options for the laptops- only giving 512 GB and 1TB is not enough options. Why do they only carry a select few config choices? Is it scalability? I can customize to my heart’s content on B&H and other retail websites…
Places like B&H that offer custom builds are just acting as the middleperson. You buy from them and then they send the order off to Apple. Once Apple gets the order, it gets built for you, and then is shipped from China.

Take this 16" MBP from B&H as an example: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...l_05_16_2_macbook_pro_with.html?fromDisList=y

See the part where it says it's a "Special Order" and is available in 2-4 weeks? It reads: This item ships direct from the distributor. Delivery estimates are approximations. You will be charged as soon as the distributor receives the order (usually within 24 hours).

It's Apple's mid tiered $2,699.00 model. The memory got upgraded from 16GB to 32GB (a $400 upgrade). B&H's $3,099 price is exactly the same as through Apple. There's no discount on it because it's a custom configuration, but there are plenty of discounts being offered on existing pre-built/non-customized models. Why would Amazon offer custom builds that are the same price as you can get from Apple? What's the point?

I started a new job this year and they shipped me a 16" M1 Max with 64GB RAM. If you were planning to get one for dev work - particularly NodeJS 16+ projects - you're in for a treat. I have yet to hear the fan spin up, versus my old company's Intel Mac that competed with my heating system for most deafening sound I heard during the day.

If the list is $3499, you might see $600 off, but not $1300 off. When have you ever seen discounting that low on an outstanding MBP laptop? This discount is just $200 lower than USA EDU discounts, previously it was $3099. Likely it’s the January inventory reduction period for taxes is the reason.

Yeah.... If you're looking for a fairly "high spec" custom configuration on a new Mac like this, it's worthwhile to ask in person at your local Apple retail stores too. More than once, I've been able to buy one of those to walk out the door with right then, despite them being "special order". I think what tends to happen is they either order one in for a customer who backs out and then they just keep it in stock in back, or they buy 1 or 2 of the custom configs and don't advertise they have them. They just assume they'll get at least a few walk-ins who request one.

(Granted, this won't help if you want one of these big discounted price deals... but just saying it's a way to get your hands on one quickly, sometimes.)

Maybe the M2 Pro will have 24GB of RAM and the M2 Max 48GB, and a GPU with better Ray Tracing support? So I'm not sure a $499 discount on the M1 Max is enough.

This is Amazon, look at that 2 TB M1 11 inch iPad Pro for 1,200 dollars?

Apple is probably offering discounts to their reseller channel to boost sales due to M2 Pro/Max delays. Apple seems to be getting a rare double hit by both production issues and running behind on hardware development this quarter and last quarter. Apple makes the best hardware on the market, so this will just be a speed bump on the journey but they are probably trying to lessen the immediate hit.

Its no longer sold on the Apple Store, plus Apple on the M2 11" iPad Pro charges $1100 to add 2TD storage over the 128GB model.
If you look at the M1 MBA the only model left before it disappears soon is the 8/7 SoC. That is $800 more for 2TB over 256GB.

In many states, unsold inventory can reduce the amount of taxable income for the year, therefore chains like BB/Amazon for example try to sell as much as they can before the end of January.

For a long-time commenter you don't seem to understand Apple, conspiracies exist of course but that sounds like the knee-jerk explanation here. These types of deals have been going on for at least 6 months, it's clearly part of Apple's new strategy of providing indirect discounts through resellers due to worsening economic conditions, reduced demand and willingness to trim their margins. Apple doesn't manufacture huge amounts of hardware that then gets stuffed into warehouses, the M1 MBPs are still being manufactured. Tim Cook can be criticized for a lot but his specialty is supply chain efficiency, i've never heard of overstock being a problem under his leadership. No way on God's green earth is Apple or any reseller going to sell a new, high-end MBP for ~40% off just because a new model that's marginally better is released. If anything the M2 Pro delay is an opportunity for Apple to sell more M1 Pros because they cannot sell the new models for any less than M1 MSRP without undercutting their brand and all signs indicate that demand for the M2 models at full retail price will be modest (like their improvements) in this economy.

The 16" is great if you plan to use it like a desktop, other than that, its too damn heavy to lug around in a backpack.
It's barely different then my old mid 2012 15" Retina MBP both dimensions and weight. Besides when I see people walking around with backpacks nowadays one would think you're in pretty good shape anyway. ;)

Yea I never had a problem with my 17" with a backpack. Not that I'd lug to a coffeeshop or somewhere else I wouldn't be long.
