Deals: Apple's M2 Mac Mini Available From $499.99 With Return of Record Low Prices

500gb is the sweet spot imo. I can see why some need 1tb but an external drive or the cloud is better suited for that imo. It's just not worth the added cost, at least for me. I work in software, so obviously I have a different opinion of someone that works in photography.

I barely crack 20% usage on my 1tb M1 MBP16.

I did that with my iMac from 2020. Went with the base drive and do external for anything data. But the problem was when I added bootcamp to boot up Windows. It is possible to use Windows in Bootcamp from an external drive but it was a bad experience. I just have a bare bones Windows partition and place on my Windows applications on an External drive. Also with 128 GB of ram, the Windows Swap space takes a big chunk out of my 500 GB drive. With my Mac partition, I have less than 100 GB of disk space free. If I sneeze, I run out of disk space.

Plus internal drive speed is way faster.
Internals aren’t faster anymore if you build a proper NVME thunderbolt drive. It’s just an aesthetics thing anymore . There’s no reason other than greed that the Mac mini couldn’t be a little taller and have swappable NVME drives. Theyr’e so tiny. Mac Studio even more so. Gone are the days ya need a tower full of huge hard Drives

Wrong, tower are still needed if you want a real powerful video card, which ARM macs lacks.

Hard Drives are going the dodo way to extinction, but NVme are the future, and macs should have one slot of this to add as your secondary storage.

Are they still planning to do video cards? Macs still aren’t gaming machines. Might as well just stream games these days

That's why god invented Thunderbolt ports.
It still still slower and just as expensive if you want reliability. 4 TB for about 1K is not much cheaper than if I should upgraded at purchase. Plus I built my own Thunderbolt enclosures / drive combos and heat makes it disconnect even with a heat sink.

That's what I said, you need a tower for a real video card. ARM macs lacks aka they don't have and won't have a real video card (something that competes with AMD/Nvidia) anytime soon.

Well, I am living in that world with external drives. No way to upgrade the internal drive unless I have Tony Stark helping me.

Just wondering, can the Mac Mini be used as a HTPC? I’m trying to convert, and want to know if it can do like Dolby Atmos and HD audio pass through?

8GB RAM kills the two lower-priced deals.
Only if you're a cool "professional" for the unwashed masses it's fine.

Obviously you don’t take photos…
Or possibly use iCloud and optimize settings..

Same. I do at least 1 TB. Who wants to worry about having to delete files because you bought a computer that's basically a flash drive.. lol.
I wish I was that cool to require a puny 1Tb INTERNAL storage as a minimum requirement. One needs to look at a real video professional's desk to see the external storage equipment

quire

Then you built it wrong, add a fan

I don't know if I'm "cool", but I currently have a browser with a few tabs, a mail client, Xcode (no project opened) and VS Code running and I'm already over 8GB. Maybe it's good enough to browse Facebook, but not much else.

I'm saying 1 TB should be the bare minimum offered.
And we are all saying its overkill for 90% of users. If you need more, then not the mac/spec for you. No idea how this simple fact escapes all the mental giants here. This topic has been beaten to death 1000X over

I cant believe a Honda civic wont hold 7 peeps and tow a 10K LB trailer, for $20K, it shoud be the minimum offered?

Not a chance only 10% of people use 1 TB.
