This is one Apple device I personally consider an "OCD item", meaning an item that is valuable and worth it to those that must have absolutely everything they can to be Apple branded.

A $25 FireStick is all I need, and I really didn't need it since the TV comes with streaming services built in.

Apple burned me twice with their older Apple TVs, that now sit in a box full of cables. Never again.

I love my Apple TV 4K (this exact version) and I really want to buy another (to replace the Roku) but beware, there is a near black flickering / flashing issue with those units if you have an OLED TV. A search for

near black flickering apple tv

...will reveal many that are frustrated with this problem.

Weirdly, if you have an OLED screen, Apple TV is pretty much the right thing for you to have because it will no matter where you are or what you are doing very reliably go to screen saver if image is paused on the screen (and will save the screen from possible burn-in). I have not found Fire TV or Roku be nearly as reliable to going to screen saver as Apple TV is. I know, first world problems but there you go...

I have a Fire stick HD, a Roku 4K, and a brand new 4k smart TV. They all do a serviceable job. Once I bought an Apple TV 4K, it was night and day in speed, ease of use, and flexibility. It's not even close

Truly the greatest deal ever. I never cancelled and I'm now paying $100 a month JUST for the service itself. I'd have been long gone by now if I wasn't splitting it with other households who all watch just enough to justify the portioned cost.
Wow. I'm paying $39.99 for all of the channels and HBO Max. Not sure why my rate hasn't increased. Maybe I'm incorrectly coded in the billing system. If it ever got above $50, I'd dump it.

Apple TV (or any streaming box) is not worth it if you own a premium TV, as all major apps such as YouTube and Plex have the same UI as Apple TV across all platforms. LG WebOS is actually better with its magic remote and built-in web browser. Most smart TV's also support Airplay 2.
The software on smart televisions typically is supported for 3-4 years at most - much less time than most people own a television. Plus, nowadays, TV manufacturers are are using those "smarts" to gather data on you (and sell it), show you ads, etc.

I'd much rather have an external streaming box and keep my television disconnected from the internet.

I would have to calculate the cost of the new remote.

There is no way I ever touch this remote again. I had it for like 2-3 years.

I don’t know why I didn’t just put it in the garbage before.

Bought one at 10$ on Amazon to replace it and it’s far better!!

i just bought an LG C1, and the first thing I did after installing it and updating its software was disconnect it from wifi and connect an Apple TV. No more ads, tracking, or other nonsense

"Smart" tvs are probably the single worst feature to infect tvs in the last decade. Built-in spyware that monetizes your viewing habits, coupled with slow, terrible interfaces. The single reason to buy an Apple TV is so I don't have to use my LG OLED tv's "smart" service.

I believe it was recently reported the Vizio and Roku make more money from advertising than selling their hardware. I use ATV for the same reason I rely on the anti-tracking features of ios and macos.

Still can’t beat the directv now 3 months of service and an Apple TV 4K for $105! I bought one for every TV at my house. Even the one outside. Still going strong.
That was years ago. Have they had that offer since?

With YouTube and Roku having a spat again where Youtube will be removed next month, Apple TV does look better if you don't have an option today.

Built-in Smart TVs still don't compare to the A-chip performance.
