Yep. I would jump on a true $5/mo plan for an LTE watch. But on AT&T, the real cost for me would be $15/mo. That just isn't worth it. I don't know why Apple doesn't try to make some kind of deal with carriers (like they did with AT&T way back with the original iPhone launch) so that their LTE watches are appealing to a broader audience.
Not to be overly technical here but Apple didn’t actually make the deal with AT&T, they made the deal with Cingular. After the deal was made, but before the iPhone became available, AT&T acquired Cingular. Perhaps that means AT&T inherited a deal they didn’t find favorable, but were required to honor for a specified period of time? 🤔

$10 + fees monthly. Easy pass. Most of the carriers around the world don’t charge for Apple Watch. Just pathetic and greedy US carriers.

Yes I love the SS but have never turned cellular. I don’t want to pay an extra $15 a month

And what these carriers are doing (Or in the past, this is what Verizon was doing) is if you had a ‘free trial‘ which they offered originally when LTE was introduced with the S3, they weren’t advising consumers about the free 30 day trial ending, but charging the extra ~$15 a month until to the user requested the cancellation. Essentially, they want you to forget about the free trial, all while they silently bill you $15 a month, which most consumers don’t pay manually, they’re set up for ‘auto pay‘, it’s a dirty trick, but not uncommon.

Yes a lot of companies do that. That's why I don't usually do free trials. Such a hassle to get it turned off

I mean come on... ****ing BILL CREDITS??? Yay for circumventing the idea of separating the phone purchase from the plan purchase.
It's because they can't actually afford to discount the product (wholesale price of Apple products leaves very little for profit) but they can certainly afford to discount the service (the markup here is quadruple digits percentages). It's worth it for them because in the case of Apple products, the products sell their service (people want a discount on an Apple Watch so badly that they are willing to add new lines).

I know, I know :) You are right. I'm just very much in hate strong dislike of it... it's no "deal" at all.

Why do they have to tug at my heartstrings like that.

These monthly credits are just contracts in another form. I won’t take any monthly credit “deal”
I Pay cash for all of my devices up front or do a Costco wireless deal where all discount is given up front instead of monthly credits. Wish everyone would push back against these silly “promos”

Yes I’m done with getting monthly credits. For the first time ever, I’m going to pay outright for my 12 Pro Max. The benefit is my bill will stay cheap.
