Still £340 in the UK. I can buy a whole laptop for that. Admittedly not the greatest laptop, but still, a whole laptop that I can probably do the large majority of what I do on my iPad. It'd have to be actual magic at that price.

I get that this is Apple prices, but I fail to see how the Magic Keyboard is overpriced given what you get:

Smart Folio for iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation) - Black: $ 99.00
Magic Keyboard - US English: $ 99.00
Magic Trackpad 2 - Silver: $129.00
Subtotal: $327.00

Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 12.9‑inch (4th generation) - US English: $349.00

You get the above plus backlit keys, the Magnetic charging, pass thru USB-C, all rolled up in a neat, portable, well thought out package for an extra $22 (though to be fair, you lose the function keys).

At $100 discount this is a banging deal.

Might be worth it, always hard to say. I do really love mine. Yes, the MacBook is cheaper but then you have a MacBook. I prefer the iPad Pro for my mobile device and the Magic Keyboard is an elegant (if eye-waveringly pricy) accessory that enhances the usefulness of the iPad tremendously.

That’s true. I love my 16” MacBook Pro. But there’s something about the quick accessibility of the iPad (and even with the keyboard it’ll still be lighter than my 16”.

Meh. I always go back to the smart folio keyboard. The trackpad is just...meh. I do appreciate the backlight.

Plus the thing is heavy as hell...

I have the folio keyboard now, and as much as I try to convince myself I *need* the magic keyboard - I haven't been able to justify it. I'd like a trackpad and greater lap stability but not at the cost of weight difference and inability to use in tablet mode without yanking it off.
I’m in this boat.
The Smart Keyboard has been for all its intent and purposes a great experience for me: the connectivity with the Smart Connector is next to flawless in my opinion (no pairing, no battery charging for it, etc), easy to take on or off, it can flip around completely for a tablet experience or cover completely the back and the front for full protection plus it’s plenty light. The keys themselves aren’t bad at all, I got used to it quick and have typed for long sessions without issues. Being on a large comfy chair with it on the lap works tons better than a laptop for me too. I got the 11” though, so that might be considerably lighter.
I can’t justify a magic keyboard yet, it would lose some of the flexibility points mentioned above but bring in a trackpad... however is it worth it? I do have a Magic Trackpad but haven’t found the motivation to give it a try. With the Smart Keyboard folio the screen for tapping is usually close enough.

It's a case, it's a Magic Stand, it's a Magic Keyboard, and a Magic Trackpad - all rolled into one incredible device. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it overpriced? Hell no.
Agreed, maybe because it’s called “a keyboard” it’s easy to forget that it’s the other things at the same time. A Magic Trackpad 2 space gray alone is $179.00 before taxes here in Canada... if the experience of the MK trackpad is remotely similar to the standalone one then that’s already a big cost to take into consideration when buying the Magic Keyboard. That already could make it not overpriced for those that will use it.
