Am I misunderstanding your post.
The Installer does not need to run in Catalina, it runs in a VM/Parallels.
VM/Parallels still needs to initiate the installer in order to set up the VM. It’s possible that because you already have a VM set up, it will convert. However, I have not been able to use an installation DVD or ISO file to install a Snow Leopard VM in Parallels.

Best of both world in my opinion is the way Sketch handles subscriptions. You pay for a year and will be eligible for every update within that year. When your subscription ends, you either renew or cancel. In the latter case, you end up with a perpetual license for the last version released during that year.

I should try myself, haven't run into issues before, might have changed in Catalina.

I already have Parallels running, can I use this code to extend that another year? Or is this only for new subscription?
Actually, I’d love to know as well. Seems like a cheaper way to extend a subscription but don’t wanna get burned, if it’s only for new accounts.

I believe this is a one year license starting from the day of purchase. If you have say 4 months left on your current license then this is effectively worth 8 months to you. You would let your old license go either now or when it expires. If the latteryou’d have 8 months left on the new license I believe.

Yeah, I don't rent software.
Renting software means they hold you hostage for your own data.
If I don't get a perpetual license, I don't bother.
Subscription modeling is like trying to install udders on my wallet. Ok, more like parasites.

I’m not sure what you’re describing here. I’ve never had Fusion or Parallels have to open or run a guest installer in the host. (That kinda defeats the purpose anyway doesn’t it?) Fusion/Parallels creates the virtual hardware, then copies the guest installer disc from the original medium (ISO or physical disc) into its own virtual disk format then boots the virtual hardware from that virtual disk. Software for the guest (including the original boot/installation OS) doesn’t have to be compatible with the host in any way.

I proposed earlier that he could convert the Fusion VM (as you’ve also proposed) but if for some reason that’s no option there should be no problem installing 10.6.8 Server from the original discs into a VM configured for it (assuming he has a physical DVD drive connected to the host that Parallels recognizes - it should recognize any standard USB DVD drive).

I’ve done all this numerous times. Is there something you know that renders any of this incorrect? Or possibly we’re just misunderstanding you?

What's the point of Parallels nowadays anyway? You can install Win 10 for FREE on your Bootcamp partition. I use Win/Mac on a daily basis a 5 second reboot while holding the option key is better than paying for a subscription.

According to the Specs tab for Parallels:
Important Details
  • Length of access: 1 year (then will be $79.99/yr thereafter, can cancel at anytime)
  • Credit card required for redeeming this product
  • Redemption deadline: redeem your code within 30 days of purchase
  • Access options: desktop
  • Max number of devices: 1
  • Only available to new users
  • Version 15
  • Updates included: 1 year

So it would seem it's only for new users. I currently have a Parallels subscription, so I can't take advantage of this. :(

Only thing of concern was Aurora HDR 2019. That too is defunct after a statement from the company that they no longer have resources to update it as they are busy with Luminar 4. A seriously WTF statement. Good software rendered useless.

And I deleted it as *fast as I could, it ate 90 GB of my disk space with out me informing, not only that, the devs don't even tell you where the data is located.
*Thought I deleted it, it's not a typical Mac App, the crap still exists after deleting the App.
It's also way too "Windowsy", as in, the UI is not what you expect from a Mac App.
Rubbish came to my mind
I bought Disk Drill on Apple's App Store, and had an equally bad experience with the software. I couldn't get it to work at all.

Virtual Box does all I need, haven’t opened VMWare Fusion in months, maybe years.
Thanks for the heads up on Virtual Box, Mr Dee! Is it as good? Are there any features missing that make it a bit annoying? Can it interact directly with the host MacOS like VMWare can?

Not sure what you mean by “WTF statement”. Key word “resources”. If they can’t afford the cost to update it they can’t afford it.

But hey. How is it useless? If you bought a perpetual license you own said license and can use it indefinitely, right? What do you need updates for?

I tried it briefly and quickly abandoned it. It’s not anywhere near as polished, and there are missing features. It runs a guest ok, but integration between host and guest is very lacking compared with the others. Which is fine if you don’t need all that. You get what you pay for.

I have the opposite experience. I got Disk Drill in a previous bundle and I was able to recover all of my files from a failed disk. It didn’t eat up any extra storage and worked really well for me.

Amazing! I just got this bundle today and now I am installing Windows on Parallels :)

I installed all of the apps. I had disk drill on my iMac so this additional license I installed on my MacBook Pro.

Excellent deal! I am not sure how I will utilise TextExpander, but for Parallels, PDF Expert, RapidWeaver 8 and xMind this is worth the price!

I am also not convinced to this VPN service, I will have to read more about it.

I used to love these bundles, but luckily the keyword "subscription" was printed early on in the offer, and I could move on to something else.

I was able to get Snow Leopard Server to work by first installing it in a Mac with Mojave. Once there, I was able to copy it to my Mac with Catalina. Catalina wouldn’t read the Snow Leopard DVD but Mojave would.

Anyone know if it is possibel to run Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8 inside Parallels? I have it working in VMWare Fusion, but my version is getting really old now (Version 8.5.10), and I'm not sure if it will work in Catalina for example.
I couldn’t create a new Snow Leopard Server VM inside Catalina since it wouldn’t recognize the DVD, but I was able to create one from a Mac running Fusion in Mojave and then copy it over to a Mac running Catalina.

Only Parallels and the VPN are subscription. iMazing, PDF Expert, and Aurora HDR are permanent licenses, for example.

Where did you see that? It isn’t obvious on their website that is the case.

From deleted files, or drive failure?

It was a cFast card that got corrupted inside an Ursa Mini camera. The camera couldn't read it, the computer would see the files but couldn't play them, I tried some video repair apps but they failed, I even sent them to an online file recovery service but they could only recover part of it with no audio. I tried DiskDrill and it found all the files intact without any issues, without any corruptions. So I kept it around ever since but haven't needed it thankfully.

Read message from Daniel Scholz. And this was almost a year back. Still no support

Bought the license and cannot use it since it still does not support EOS R files. The WTF statement was because adding support for a RAW format isn't that big of a deal. I get the thing about resources but abandoning updates to a software you are still selling is messed up. The perpetual license is of no use to me. lol

Well... I'm sure you know better than the developers of the application whether adding support for RAW is or isn't that big of a deal. 😉

As a developer myself, I'm always astounded by how end users can speak with such authority on what's involved in adding a feature to an application. Rest assured it's almost always a much bigger deal than the end users think.

If it didn't do what you wanted from the start, why did you buy it in the first place?

As for "still selling"... are they still selling it? If they are, well, so be it, but it's not like they're not being up front about the situation, right?
