As with almost all aspects of perception, there are significant variances in how human brains process movements, and in how prominent or distracting certain effects are to the individual person. This is largely independent from how good your eyesight is. I have very bad eyesight but can’t not see the jelly scrolling and be irritated by it on the mini 6.
Of course you’re right.

In my case I rarely scroll far or fast. It’s mostly a note-taking device (NotePlan) or horizontal reader (Kindle). The rare times I scroll something a long ways or quickly, I get sort of a “ooh, is that the jelly thing?” And then I play back and forth a bit but can never really convince myself I’m seeing it.

Perception is neat.

Anybody know when this sale ends.
With Amazon, there is no ‘sale end date’, it’s whenever they run out of stock.

Like, with the Apple Watch, when they had a sale on the last model, it literally lasted for an hour until the stock was depleted.

NGL , tempting when/if BB gets the same price and hopefully open box are in the lower 300's

and very not cool with 'jelly' on paper since im screen neurotic, but when will the next mini come too? and at what price?

I dont think I can bring myself to trade in my mini5 even if I were to get a 6.

I’ve been wanting to get a Mini for a while now. Debated between this and the regular iPad.

If a new Mini is not expected within the next 6 months, I think I’ll use my tax refund money on this.

Make room for the Apple Pencil probably. Fun fact, iPad Air 5 has jelly effect in its landscape mode and both current gen iPad Pros have it in portrait mode.
Although, in all fairness, it's not as pronounced with 120hz. But aside from making it a 120hz screen there really isn't much to be done engineering wise about "jelly scrolling". You'll get it one way or another. The only thing I could think of is a controller that changes how it addresses individual pixels based on orientation. But I'm not hardware-savvy enough to know if this is even possible.

I think there is a "can't unsee" factor to this. Colleague got a mini day one. Looked at the thing, was like "nice, but not my form factor", but didn't notice the jelly at all. After "jelly-gate" became public I looked at it again, spotted it right away. At least for me this goes to show how much of human perception is altered by sheer expectation. Like a dead pixel. Takes years for you to notice - but once you do it'll bug you forever.

Buying Apple products in the UK, we don’t seem to get anything like the same discounts. Apple RRP for base iPad mini is £479 ($602 USD) and the best price I’ve seen so far is on Amazon for £459 ($577 USD)

Why on Earth Apple never have these deals for their EU customers ir beyond me.
We just pay regular- slightly inflated price(aside from taxes and additional 1 year warranty in some countries) and get excited if theres 10% off at best...
For 400 euros, I would definitely consider this, despite owning iPP 12.9 M1 5G and "generic" ThinkPad laptop.

Since everyone is talking about jelly scrolling, I have a question about it. Does it affect all iPads equally or are some worse than others? Because I’ve seen videos that people have posted and could clearly see it on their iPads, but I’ve tried to see it on mine and I can’t.

I’m asking because if some iPad mini 6s are worse than others, for those that are worried about it, they could just return theirs and try again.

ProMotion does help but I would also say screen size and main orientation usage helps mostly. It’s harder to notice the effect when it’s dispersed over a larger surface area I assume due to our eyes focusing on a smaller area making it harder to see the entire screen skewing all at once vs a smaller screen where you can. Additionally, most people use the 12.9” in landscape much like a laptop so the controller is oriented properly. I’ll assume Apple did the same thing with the 11” Pro because “pro’s” use it in landscape as well. However, the Air 5 is oriented in such a way that they made portrait mode it’s main orientation (like the Mini 5) but then they did the opposite on the Mini 6 making landscape the primary…on a Mini! I get more info on my iPhone PM than the Mini 6 in landscape ha.

That’s fine if it doesn’t bother you but it’s there and it ruins the perceived quality of the screen because of the ghosting it creates.

Site search is your friend. The topic has been discussed in many threads over the last several months.

Mini 6 worth an upgrade over mini 4? Just use for basic use, media use etc.

On the media use is the screen any better (or worse) for Netflix, movies etc? As in size/aspect size.

Just wondering if it’s time to upgrade, but not sure worth it over mini 4.

Thanks

Open box excellent condition 64 wifi SG are $364 at Best Buy if looking for a little more savings

Absolutely -- will be way way faster and more enjoyable.

(If it were me I'd grab a steal on a Mini 5, but that's me)

Make sure you can return the M6 wherever you get it from, just in case you are one of us that really dislikes the jelly.

Yeh will be faster, but probably something I won’t notice much tbh. As say it’s more of a very basic use and media.

I’m wondering on screen size/aspect if it’s better, as for movies fitting better and not wasting space etc.

Just depends what you watch a lot of.
Modern stuff, for sure..

I personally watch a mix of old/new and a ton of 4:3 content still, so it's much more of a mixed bag

That aspect ratio change also is worse for landscape web browsing (in my opinion anyhow), as it's now shorter and wider

So is it better for newer material, iTunes (wish they’d change the name nowadays..) movies, Netflix, Prime etc? I presume Mini 6 is now more 16:9 then than 4:3?

Thanks
