The funny thing is when I go to the order history page the order is gone completely like it never happened
Ditto. It's gone from mine too. I had to look mine up manually at https://www.tigerdirect.com/cgisec/orderTrack.asp to see that it got cancelled. I've also received no cancellation or status update mail.

The funny part is that on Feb 4th, since I clicked thru from United MileagePlus shopping, I received an email "Your order has been tracked through MileagePlus Shopping... We see you made a purchase at TigerDirect". On Feb 6th, 4 pm Pacific, I received:
"You've earned miles through MileagePlus Shopping

You've earned 813 miles just by shopping
Feels good, doesn't it?

TigerDirect 813 miles
Order Date: 2/4/2023"

I'm guessing it'll get reversed.

Best Buy updated that policy REAL quick. Tiger Direct was on there Sunday, which was the whole reason I went to the store. View attachment 2154700
Thanks! Indeed.

https://web.archive.org/web/2023020...ee/pcmcat290300050002.c?id=pcmcat290300050002 taken Feb 2, 2023 still had TigerDirect. Now it's gone from https://www.bestbuy.com/site/help-t...ee/pcmcat290300050002.c?id=pcmcat290300050002.

This is why it's important people do their duty by submitting pages to https://archive.org/web/.

You might not. You never know -- they'll probably do a clawback if they notice it. A couple years ago, I ordered something for about $2,000 that they later told me was not in stock. So I canceled the order and bought it it elsewhere. Apparently I had the Honey extension in the browser and it registered something that triggered a $200 cash back credit on that aborted purchase. I didn't even realize it until a couple months ago, when I looked and (after PayPal bought them) I saw a $200ish balance (a little over 20K points) in rewards credits just sitting there. Trying to be honest, I called and asked about it and they surprisingly told me to just take it. There's always the possibility that someone will ask to take it back -- I'll give it back if asked, since I didn't earn it -- but it's been two years now.

But yeah, most likely there will be a clawback.

I guess the next best question is, where are the best places to find deals on iPad Pros. Other than maybe Swappa?

Welp, this ended like I expected. Orders cancelled and TD revoked from BestBuy’s policy.

We can’t verify if anyone from BB will get fired for price-matching, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
A few folks reported that they had to get permission from higher-ups to get the match. I hope they won't be disciplined or become sacrificial lambs for the higher-ups who approved it.

I doubt it. That would make people less likely to price match and cause more complaints than eating a tiny loss relative to total sales. If I were BB i’d limit the max price match to some percentage rather than a straight match to avoid such problems in the future.

As expected, and I see a lot of others with the same news, but just checked the order status and it was cancelled.

This whole exercise just goes to show that Apple doesn't have iPad pricing set correctly.

iPad revenue has been stagnant for over a decade. Yet, meaningful price reductions make them sell like hotcakes. It's a great product being sold at a very ambitious price, and Apple is literally selling itself short by selling iPad pros at the same prices as Macbook pros, in some configurations.

Me too. Order status shows cancelled, but I did but receive an email update.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent order. Unfortunately, due to incorrect pricing resulting from technical issues we are unable to fulfill your order.

Consistent with our terms of service, we are cancelling all orders that were impacted by the incorrect pricing. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,
The TigerDirect Team

A week or two ago I saw that Amazon was selling the 1TB model of iPad Pro for $200 off - I just checked again and didn't see those discounts. When I want to find if there are any decent deals on iPads I check out the MR buyers guide pages. If you go here and scroll all the way down to the bottom, it shows a helpful chart of current/recent best prices:

Every Black Friday, Best Buy usually has awesome deals on iPad Pros. $150-200 off. Usually one day only.

I have a little different take than many have expressed. I think for all the bad press/taste TigerDirect earned (even though we knew how it would end from the start) I think BestBuy made in positive impact points. I doubt very seriously anybody at BestBuy got/will get fired. I think somebody saw how they got “bit” and made immediate moves to correct the situation and make sure it doesn’t happen again (the updated policy) but overall, many instances of them doing the honorable thing, even though it hurt them a little. Positive points in my book. And while I live too far away from a BB store to have benefited in the form of unreal deals on products, I did gain a little (more) respect for BestBuy and the way they treat their customers - specifically the really geeky ones who probably spend lots more $ than the average consumers anyway.

I learned a lesson years ago in school - The primary objective of any business is... “to stay in business.”. It took a lot of convincing to get me out of the “to make a profit” mind lock - but this situation helps demonstrate the point. BB made the move to help ensure they stay in business. TD made a move to help ensure they won’t.

The guy at my local Best Buy was kind of a **** about it but for the most part I agree with your sentiment.
