Does anyone use the trackpad with their MacBook Pro 14” or 16”? Would you get it?

Or is it strictly to be used for iMacs and Mac Studio?
Well I would say the MBP 14 / 16 already has the trackpad built in

I think it makes most sense with a iMac, Mini or Studio or maybe with an iPad Air / Pro too if you don't want to pay for a Magic Keyboard

The trackpad can be worth buying if you usually connect your MBP to an external display and don’t like using something like the Magic Mouse.

I don’t connect my MBA to an external display since I already got a Mac mini that does that. So for me I’m not buying the magic trackpad since I’m using the built-in trackpad on my Macbook with no issues.

Thank you! Good to know. You just saved me spending some money on this trackpad. The discount itself isn’t too bad. I normally use a built-in trackpad along with Magic Mouse if I need to navigate throughout the screen more.

Trackpad will probably be on the left or else with my mouse on the right, but further to the right.
Being left handed, that's how I use my trackpad too. on the left of they keyboard. Mouse I always use right handed
You guys have no time to drink coffee or anything. Both hands are well occupied ☕️ 😭

I really love this trackpad!

When I got my 24" iMac back in April I got it with the Magic Mouse, and didn't have any complaints about the mouse, but later on I got the urge to try the Magic Trackpad. I had to order it from Apple, since I wanted the Blue one to match my Blue iMac and accessories.

Good choice on my part. I love using this and can't believe I didn't give it a try earlier. Battery life is also really great so far as well.

I've got one, battery life is not that great!

Really? What kind of battery life are you seeing?

I've been using a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID for M1 Macs and this Magic Trackpad since I received a Mac Studio on June 30th. I probably have about 100 hours utilization of this system so far, including as my main system for work. Both the KB and the TrackPad were plugged into power once -- when I initially associated them with the Mac Studio -- and haven't been on power since. You can seee the batter numbers above, both doing better than my Sony XM5's haha

Granted the trackpad is not the primary input device in my workflow. It spends a lot of time idle and I only use it for things that need gestures; otherwise I use a SteelSeries wired mouse predominantly. The keyboard, on the other hand, gets a lot of usage all day long per my job function and I agree that 62% is per the above screenshot is not super great. My previous non-touchID keyboard used with my Intel MBP lasted dang near a month between charges.

Still a steal of a price for this Track Pad though. Well, at least a more tolerable one. 129.99 for a trackpad is unequivocally nutty. :)

It absolutely can be used with MBP as well. Whether or not it makes sense depends on the ergonomics of your setup.

I used a 2019 MBP for a long while the was perpetually in a fixed position on my desk, elevated by a TwelveSouth stand. I used an external Apple keyboard and an external wired mouse as well as trackpad with this setup. Folks that use their MacBooks in clamshell may be inclined to do similar -- impossible to use the trackpad or keyboard on a MacBook that has a closed lid. ;-)

I tried to use mine with my 14" MBP and it works with it but when you switch back and forth between the touchpad on the laptop and the magic touchpad you can feel that there is a lot of lag on the magic touchpad. This is really really damn irritating so I ended up plugging it into the mac with a lightning/USB-C cable which sort of gets rid of the whole Magic bit. You probably wouldn't notice this if you were using it with a desktop all the time and never go near a macbook.

Eventually I bought a Logitech MX master 3 and just use that when it's docked. Less lag and because it's a different type of device to the built in touch pad you don't notice the lag anyway.

The Magic touchpad is useless for precision positioning though. Prefer a mouse for that still.

I use it with my MBP 16 M1 Max and it works flawless. Also use the magic keyboard with FP sensor. I only use it when connected to my monitor though. It's also great for using with universal control with my iPad Pro 11 on the desk.

Using this for my iPad. Works pretty well. I just wish you could use Universal Control with just iPads only, no Mac required.

Compared to using a mouse, do your fingers get tired faster than your hand when using the mouse?

I mean, I think having to use gestures all the time plus moving the cursor with the finger can make you tired faster than using a mouse.

I don't like regular mouse either, anyway. Requires too much desk space for moving around. I use trackball plus this stand to make it vertical for better ergonomics.

That said, I find the Apple trackpads problematic when I need to click and drag stuff around (too much pressure on my wrist). For that, I'd prefer a normal mouse over Apple's trackpad.

Still by far the best pointing device for a computer anywhere in the world. And nothing else even comes close.
They are great indeed, even the old AA battery driven trackpad 1 was awsome in the old days. However, for work on a desk I much prefer a wacom board which offers perfect precision and is a lot faster to work with once you get around it.

I have had the MT2 for about a month now.
I am pleasantly surprised how easy it is to use ( once you learn the various gestures). The best part is that it is not biased against "left handers" which has been my issue with mice...
Not sure about the battery life at this point. Apple suggest it should last a month plus - which would be less than any mouse and less than the Magic Keyboard that I also use with an external display for my MBA M1
Not sure whether it is a software or hardware issue with the MT2.
It would be nice if the MT2 could be used with multiple devices like the Logitech options...
It appears to be a keeper at this juncture.

Sucks to hear, I was expecting great battery life. My AA version of the Magic Mouse had terrible battery life as well.
I guess not great compared to a different kind of mouse but you need to charge this maybe once a month for 2 hours (if going from 0% to 100%) & it is useable during that period, I don't see how that's a huge inconvenience. It's not like I keep track exactly but pretty sure I charged it less than that when my only computer was a desktop and I was using it a minimum of several hours a day.

I've never noticed anything personally. I haven't used a real mouse in years but I imagine you would be moving your fingers less, entire wrist more?

I'm losing about 10% a day. Mostly web browsing several hours per day and my mini is sleeping on/off during the day and off at night.
