Amazon today is discounting a collection of models in Apple's iMac lineup, starting with the 21.5-inch iMac from mid 2020 (3.0GHz 6-Core, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) for $1,349.00, down from $1,499.00. This is an ongoing lowest-ever price for this model, and it's being matched at B&H Photo.

Although the 21.5-inch iMac technically hasn't seen a hardware update since 2019, Apple does now ship these models with an SSD. This change was made alongside the refresh seen to the 27-inch models in August 2020. You can also get the quad-core 21.5-inch model with 256GB for $1,219.00, down from $1,299.00.

There are a few discounts on 27-inch models, including one all-time low price for the 27-inch iMac with a 3.8GHz 8-Core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD for $2,149.92, down from $2,299.00. This is the model on the high end of Apple's 27-inch iMac lineup from mid 2020.

Otherwise, the 27-inch iMac with 3.1GHz 6-Core, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD is $1,678.92, down from $1,799.00. Additionally, the 27-inch iMac with 3.3GHz 6-Core, 8GB RAM, and 512GB SSD is $1,849.00, down from $1,999.00.

I think there will be a major iMac update soon. In two forms: All the low-end iMacs (and I take "low range" generously including all quad core iMacs) will be replaced with models with an M1 processor. And the first round of improved processors will go into the mid-range model. Plus the ten core model will go and will be replaced with an 18 core and one maxed out Intel model.

Nice to see some discounting, that said the truly small base RAM size and puny system storage sizes (they look like phone size items) stick out like sore thumbs. Since you can't upgrade the SSD's on these guys, unless they're going to be browser only, I'd avoid them like the plague.

If they couldn't give their users adequate base space on SSD's because of costs, they probably should have kept SSD's as upsale options until the price points got down (who knows when). A cheap base hard drive has been 1TB for a very, very long time.

Been using my 2020 27” iMac for working since it was released. Multiple monitors and all kinds of stuff going on. it is one sweet machine. Never slows down and never crashes. Best desktop Mac I have owned and a solid machine for the end of Intel. But I am excited for the m1 iMac as I see more and more iPad apps work on the m1. That will be very cool for me. Mac Mini isn’t an option for me, never seems to integrate as well.

Does this mean those new color iMacs are coming sooner than later? Perhaps even March 23rd? Odd to have a big blowout sale on iMacs exactly two weeks before the Apple event.

It must be tough if you need an iMac or big MBP right now because your mac died or something. You know the future is coming, but you can't wait for it.

I agree. I bought my 27" iMac in the fall of 2020. One sweet machine, I agree.
I wish I had waited, I think!
My previous iMac was the 2013 model and Big Sur was out, so..... Possibly I could have waited and just used Catalina, but I had no idea when Apple was bringing Apple Silicon to the iMac 27.
Oh Well....
