In a new flash sale at B&H Photo, you can get the 12-inch MacBook for just $799.00, $500 off from the original price of $1,299.00. This is the configuration from mid 2017 with 8GB onboard RAM and 256GB of PCIe-based flash storage, available in Gold and Rose Gold during today's sale.

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with B&H Photo. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

The 12-inch MacBook is Apple's low-cost notebook, featuring a 12-inch Retina display, 10-12 hour battery life, Force Touch trackpad, and a butterfly keyboard, all encased in a 0.5-inch thin enclosure.

In terms of sales, we've been tracking an ongoing discount for the 512GB version of the same MacBook at multiple retailers, but B&H Photo's flash sale today is the best price currently available online for the 256GB model. It's also the best we've ever seen among the major retailers.

Well there you go. All you people saying entry prices for Macs are too high, here’s your chance.

Does this have the same keyboard as the 2016-current MBP? Just wondering if it'll suffer from the same dust/ingress issues.

Meh, you can get a SP6 with a quad core CPU, pen and keyboard for $799 at Costco. The CPU in the MacBook is a joke and you can’t even charge it and use a usb device without some dongle. Oh, and get ready to replace the keyboard on an annual basis.

Ha! Anyone buying this outdated and underspecced machine really, really wants to be in Apple ecosystem pretty badly. It's basically Apple's version of a Chromebook. Damn. My aversion to this machine is really showing. Apple has better hardware to spend your money on is what I'm saying.

Thats a great price but right now I'd buy a used 2015 2.2 MacBook air.. more ports and $5-600. And the 2015 2.2 is more powerful too!

If these machines would have come out in 2017 at that price, they would've flown off the shelves. But as others have pointed out, the Core M CPU was pretty anemic so these machines are far from future proof.

Disgusting how more expensive Apple products have become at terrible specs.

While it’s clear these machines are not very powerful, I’ve been using a 2016 MacBook for Ableton, Serato, photoshop, and illustrator with zero problems at all. The air is by far a better option, but I absolutely love the form factor of this laptop, especially from a portability standpoint.

Love my macbook. Have the m5 512 gb got for $999 during best buy sale a few years ago. Still running strong. Don't use for super heavy stuff but runs extra display and normal stuff just fine. Love the size

Good deal! While it's becoming a dated machine now I'm not sure I get all the hate here for the macbook, it fits for people who want the lightest little portable mac they can get - my wife absolutely loves hers.

This isnt aimed at people who need 20 things plugged into the machine at all times (and when they do plug things in it's either brief or it's to dock it at a desk), and it isnt aimed at people who need to be pegging a high end CPU at full load for hours at a time. It's a lightweight machine for people who dont need to be tethered often and/or want it to be very easy to toss in a bag. It's pricing has been higher maybe than it should be, but there's nothing wrong with the actual machine (keyboard failures aside, a problem it shares with every apple laptop from 2016/2017)
