Meh, you can get a SP6 with a quad core CPU, pen and keyboard for $799 at Costco. The CPU in the MacBook is a joke and you can’t even charge it and use a usb device without some dongle. Oh, and get ready to replace the keyboard on an annual basis.
When searching for "SP6", Google returns a lot of results about the Kurzweil SP6. I'm pretty sure that's not what you meant. It would have helped if you said "brand/company-name SP6" instead of just "SP6".

edit: as others have mentioned, it's "Surface Pro 6".

I love my 2017 retina 12-inch MacBook! It's absolutely quiet, other than the light clicking sound from typing on it. It has no fan. The display is beautiful -- I run it at the highest-resolution "More Space" setting.

I'm lucky that I bought the highest-spec version, a 1.4 GHz Core "i7" with 16 GB memory and a 500 GB SSD, which makes it about as fast as the new retina MacBook Air. This tiny two pound machine runs everything I've thrown at it, but then I'm not a gamer. My sister, though, led her WoW armies with a monstrous 17-inch Windows "laptop" that weighed over 8 pounds; needless to say it never left her desk. In contrast, I always take my MacBook out with me in a thin messenger bag hidden under my jacket. And I pull it out often.

As others who type on the latest generation of MacBook have said, they get used to the short key travel and don't really like going back to their old keyboards. I enjoy going back to typing on my 2015 MacBook Pro and my 2010 MacBook Air (which I need to run old versions of macOS to access older software) but only after twenty seconds or so getting used to the mushier keyboard feel. Then I remember that Macs have always had the nicest keyboards! But most of the day I use this retina MacBook, and it has worked perfectly for me for almost two years.

I owned almost this exact machine, though with the m7, and it was great. I sold it to a customer that really needed (at that moment for a trip) a good travel-size laptop. I had no issues with the keyboard or anything about it really. Sure, you need a dongle to add a device and power it simultaneously, but I did that rarely, so it worked great. I have since moved up to a 15" MacBook Pro for the screen size (Damn my 49 year-old-now-I-need-reading-glasses eyes!) but I do sometimes miss the near absolute perfect portability of the 12" MacBook. And at $800.00, that is great deal. If there is a new one coming soon, it will cost substantially more I am sure.

I purchased this computer recently from B&H for the same price. It does a fine job for screen sharing and light use, which is what I bought it for.

And if there is an issue with the keyboard, it is covered for 4 years by Apple.

[doublepost=1551899323][/doublepost]Would never consider buying this MacBook too much at risk with that keyboard and plus B&H their return policy is terrible
If the computer arrives damaged or defective, B&H has to take it back. Between Apple and B&H, you would be covered. The only thing that isn't covered, is buyers remorse.

And I still isn’t interested, too many sacrifices for form over function
Agree, personally. On the other hand, I donated the mine to my wife (mainly because keyboard) and honestly she loves it because it has a beautiful screen and weighs absolutely nothing. I'd be complaining about the weak battery life, cruddy camera, single-port situation, and general slowness... but that stuff doesn't outweigh form factor for her. I suspect, many other casual users feel the same.

So I'm out here lugging her old 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and making the opposite tradeoffs as her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well there you go. All you people saying entry prices for Macs are too high, here’s your chance.

Good deal! While it's becoming a dated machine now I'm not sure I get all the hate here for the macbook, it fits for people who want the lightest little portable mac they can get - my wife absolutely loves hers.

This isnt aimed at people who need 20 things plugged into the machine at all times (and when they do plug things in it's either brief or it's to dock it at a desk), and it isnt aimed at people who need to be pegging a high end CPU at full load for hours at a time. It's a lightweight machine for people who dont need to be tethered often and/or want it to be very easy to toss in a bag. It's pricing has been higher maybe than it should be, but there's nothing wrong with the actual machine (keyboard failures aside, a problem it shares with every apple laptop from 2016/2017)

Nice deal, except ... keyboard.

The point of businesses is to be profitable.

the point of business is NOT to feed the personal greed of some managers. its to make a solid profit

These paired with an LG Ultrafine 4k (get a refurb) is the dream.

I would jump on this if I didn't already have one.

way too weak for a 4k display - you will burn it soon

Thats a great price but right now I'd buy a used 2015 2.2 MacBook air.. more ports and $5-600. And the 2015 2.2 is more powerful too!
It may be a great price compared to the previous price but it's still not a great price for the spec you get.

Yeah, but that would a problem with a deal for any Apple laptop from then. And honestly, I have a 2016 MBP for work that I havent had any KB prob with and my wife's macbook developed the problem with one key about 2 months ago or so and Apple did the replacement for free. So if someone's looking for a good deal on the macbook I'm not sure I'd consider the keyboard issue a complete deal breaker, just a caveat to be aware of.

This is a fantastic travel notebook. I almost purchased a second one, but couldn't bring myself to buy a gold colored computer. Hopefully the silver or gray drops to a similar price at some point.

How well does a SP6 work as a laptop? As in, how well would it work for me to place it on my legs and hammer out massive amounts of text?

Stupid stinky CAD. That's 1070CAD, 15% tax, so 1230.50 in total. Still feels like way too much to me for Core M and one USB C port.

Plus a flawed keyboard design that's likely to fail within the first couple of years

I had a Surface Pro 4 a few years back and the lapability was ok, but not as good as laptop. If you’re going to mostly use it on your lap and not interested in the tablet aspect of it then you’re better off with a Surface Laptop that can also has a quad core CPU and can be had for around the same price.

My fiancée got this rev when they were released and still loves it. Extremely light weight and portable (fits into a handbag). Can run Photoshop and Illustrator just fine... not limited to iOS. She has an iMac for more intensive projects. This is a great price!

Couldn't agree more. I picked one up on Woot last year for grad school. I'm now running Photoshop on it to process images. It takes everything like a champ. I love that it's super portable too.

I'd love the smaller form factor, but it still isn't a good enough deal to make me switch from my 2013 MBA.

I'm awaiting used older MBAs' prices to come down to some semblance of reality before I snatch up an 11" for a walk-around, don't-care-what-happens-to-it machine. $300-400 for a beat 2010 model is ridiculous (and models up to 2013 are even higher in price), but I've got to concede that they definitely hold their resale value.

I have been using a Retina Macbook for almost 4 years with no problems (touch wood). It has been great for business travel. Although I carry a couple of dongles in the bag I really appreciate its compact design and good display.
