It likely means they are trying to get rid of this version's inventory because there is a newer version coming shortly.
I think this is highly highly unlikely The A8 chip is still way more than capable enough. Maybe a smaller or bigger version is coming (HomePod Mini, HomePod+). But I cannot see them outright replacing the HomePod for awhile.

Already out of stock. 12:20 Pm PST.

What the heck! Guess I'll head to the local Costco after work to see if they have them in stock. Already purchased an iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) & AW5 this year and the Homepod will be the trifecta. Immensely happy with all of my upgrades so far.

Damn, the costco page doesn’t even exist anymore. Anyone saved a screenshot? Trying to do price match with BB.

Just picked one up at North Riverside outside of Chicago. This store had pulled them off display—not sure if it was a coincidence.

I went to the membership desk, was told to ask one of the red vest managers by the cashiers, and he pulled one out for me. Came up as $199.97, surprising him as well. Chicago stores were out, but suburban stores had some in stock. Good luck!

can anyone with a Canadian Cosco account signin on this link to check the price please? I’d get an account JUST for this to get my second HomePod

I just checked, it’s $389 at Costco in Canada.

Best Buy has open box units for $299

Do you truly believe your echo is comparable to the HomePod? Not even close to being in the same realm as what the HomePod can execute in terms of some sound (<— Which is what the HomePod excels At). But enjoy your echo.

I have the full size 2nd gen Echo (not the dot) and my girlfriend has a HomePod. They sound about the same. HomePod has slightly better bass, but not $200 better bass. Neither sounds good compared to my mid-range home stereo, so I don’t listen to music much on either. Without using them for music, it comes down to how useful their voice assistants are... and Alexa is so far ahead of Siri it’s not even a competition.

Went in to my local store at lunch to see if they had any in stock. "No, we haven't had any in-store stock, it's an online-only item." Thanked him, said I'd look it up online "You're the fifth person in the past hour to ask about it - and the only one who was polite when I said no." Sheesh, people, don't take it out on people who have no say in the matter at all.....

Quickly loaded up the app on my phone, tried to order 2 "Item out of stock in requested quantity." Crap. Maybe 1? *BINGO!*

I may have very well gotten the last one. Tried again when I got back to work 20 minutes later, and now it just shows "product page doesn't exist". The app does just show "order placed", though, so I might get a "sorry, we ran out" still...

Gone.

Based on this experience if Apple were to lower the price to $199 people would be climbing over each other trying to get them, no?

Should have ordered earlier while it was available... Now that I’ve had a beer and am feeling more in the mood to make a purchase of course it is gone. :( My existing HomePod needs a stereo sound friend!

Our local Best Buy price matched it. I’m looking forward to our oddball White & Space Grey Stereo Pair! (Maybe later I’ll get another so they match 🤣)

Tempting; firmly in "wife will kill me" category.
Just put it behind something, and don't tell her you got it, and then mime along with Siri whenever Siri says anything. It'll go totally unnoticed.

Plus $60 to $120 for the membership and $5 for shipping and it's only in space gray.
You can often recoup the cost of the membership in savings on gas, if you buy your gas at CostCo.

Wow, that's a great price for anyone interested in it!

I'm not into "smart" speakers though. I am enjoying my pair of 12" Eneby speakers configured in stereo mode.

I love my HomePod. It’s the best sounding speaker inits class bar none. If ur into audio and even just threw one on ur desk at work you would definitely enjoy it...for music that is. It so much for the smart aspect. I love clean audio. And HomePod quality is very impressive. And this coming from a guy who has paradigm studio 100’s and a cc300 in my living room. If ur comparing it to Alexa or any others for that matter it’s not even in the same league. $199 is a steal for a speaker like this. Even if a refresh is coming.

Selling mine after two months. It sounds great, could be a touch louder when considering reasonable expectations but that’s just nitpicking. However, as my first home is being built and I’m window shopping for all my smart things, Siri just isn’t good enough. Even aside from home automation. Siri just sucks. She’s far too limited in her capabilities and the annual updates have been lackluster and disappointing. I wish I wasn’t having to switch to Echos and Alexa, but it just makes sense... for me, anyway.
On a slightly related but kinda-not-really note, I am slowly fading away from my Apple fanboyism. Still prefer my iPhone and Mac, no doubt, but... IDK.

Local Costco was clueless but kind and worked their computer to find that the next closest store has 4. I’ll call in the morning to see if there are any left. Inventory system updates twice a day.

totally disagree...just completely switched from Alexa to Siri...had 9 Alexas throughout the house, fully invested since originally Echo....Siri blows Alexa out of the water if u are in the Apple eco system, not even close...if they would just sell a cheaper smaller version, it would be game over for Alexa...pretty sure that product is coming soon....went from 9 echo devices to 2 homepods, ipad and old iphone...hated using Alexa and Siri...now that I’m fully committed to Siri things couldn’t be better, smoother and easier...Apple products are just better, sure they are expensive and they take their time...but eventually they get it and do it right...new shortcuts super charged homekit

Same. Alexa is easily the worst of the 3 assistants with Siri being in the middle now - it even scores last place in all of the independent tests. If you use a voice assistant as a novelty to make it play fart noises or something maybe Alexa is good for you, but if you want to actually do anything productive you want Siri or Assistant.

The microphones and noise cancelling on the HomePod are second to none and I couldn’t live without them at this point.
