Then how can retailers afford to sell at 1/3 less? They don't even get any of the Apple Music or ecosystem revenue.

To get people in the store spending the money they saved on the HomePod.

Blind testing says different.....you are the victim of purchasing bias.....justifying spending a ridiculous amount of money on a subpar product.

No he's not the victim of purchasing bias. And it's not a subpar product. There is tech in the HomePod that you can't get in a speaker less than something like $1,000. It's a steal at regular price.

It sounds better than the Sonos. The sound fills the room more, the bass is tight, highs are shimmering, and it can go louder with much less distortion.

Not to mention Siri can hear you even when the music is loud.

So they put a $100 loss on a HomePod hoping you'll pick up some $100+ cables while you're there... ?

Loss leaders work for supermarkets and subscription services, not one-off expensive electronics purchases.

BTW is there a single review for the HomePod that praises its sound quality without adding the qualifier "... for a device of this size"?

The sound these things put out, is totally worth $200 imo... still very pleased with it and I got mine months ago for this price new (thanks Nebraska Furniture Mart price match w/ Best Buy!)

I agree about the price but hope they don't sell a bunch because it still overpriced, that would get their attention even more

$199 is no way overpriced for what u are getting. The HomePod has amazing sound quality that’s almost on par with my paradigm studio 10’s. Awesome bass and beautiful mids. Just a beautiful sounding speaker and for $199 I should have definitely gotten 2.

Out of stock at all local Targets and the website says temporarily out of stock. Best Buy usually won't price match out of stock.

Best Buy was cheerfully price matching last week. Look back in this thread.

I picked one up from a local best buy for $199 when Target was sold out online and the nearest Target store with stock was thousands of miles away.

If you want one, try. What's to lose?

I have one already. Really want to pair them in stereo mode.

CNET’s review of the Sonos One by Ty Pendlebury says: “You can find better-sounding smart speakers, including the Apple HomePod and the Google Home Max...”

https://www.cnet.com/reviews/sonos-one-review/

Their review of the Apple HomePod by Megan Wollerton says: “Apple's $349 HomePod has excellent bass and consistently superior sound quality across a wide variety of music genres.”

whats the cost to make one of these things? I highly doubt its much money there is nothing advanced about it.

About $216 per unit. The margins on the HomePod are very small, it's an incredibly advanced piece of hardware, which is gimped by it's software.
