I've thought about this a bit more and an experience today reaffirmed by previous thoughts. My daughter had a birthday and received some money as gifts. Started looking at a Nexus 7 tablet which lead me to Google Play. The app selection is still no comparison. I'll stick with a bit of a boring phone to have access to a better selection of apps.

I agree. The app selection is the only reason why I am still using Apple.

My disappointment with the One X is that it only comes in 16gig and that's a no-go for me. Too bad about the camera too. Seems like these otherwise great phones always have one or two Achilles heels to keep them from achieving greatness. The One X should have been a killer (most gorgeous design I've ever seen). It had almost everything going for it... It's like HTC wants their phones to fail.

Yea I've been rooting for HTC as well. They make great phones, but I feel they're trying to be Nokia, dishing out as much phones and not really concentrating on refining just one to beat the iPhone. If they made the camera great and battery replaceable like the s3 then thats a great phone. I feel the s3 has the advantage as it has a card slot and battery is replaceable. and right now they're just selling it 99$ on a 2 year contract because samsung got them beat.

Most of Apple's Apps are games and most of the apps that matter are also on Android. Tho I would really love to get a nexus 7 and was thinking of selling my iPad for it.

My advice is wait until Sep/Oct for when Apple announces the new iPhone.

If it satisfies your requirements then get it, if it doesn't switch to Android or Windows.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII and other good phones might even get a price drop during that time if you don't like the new iPhone.

So waiting is really a win, win situation.

This guy/gal said it all really.

I switched. I am really enjoying the phone actually.

i have the lumia 900 and i love windows 7.5.. 8 will be very good.. the presentation alone is beautiful.. there is no need to jailbreak.. the social integration is cool too.. really the hardware is beautiful, os is gorgeous and refreshing.. iOS has 1.5 things over windows..

1.the apps.. miss instagram.. paypal.. chase.. hbo go.. flipboard!
.5. the camera.. the lumia takes better pictures than people say.

Too bad you will never see windows 8 on it. All of the current Windows phones in the Lumia line are not going to see the update.

Wait for the IPhone 5' I sold my unlocked IPhone 4s to my brother who wanted to switch carriers and picked up a Galaxy S 3 to test out untill the launch of the IPhone 5 all I can say is I can't wait till launch day. The S3 is a nice phone and has a few features I would like to see on the IPhone but over all IOS is a lot better OS.
As for updates when Apple releases a new OS it's available right a way with Android you are at the mercy of Samsung then your carrier they will decide if and when you can't the latest OS.

As for warranty Apples AppleCare + can't be beat 2 year waranty and accidental damage protection with almost instant replacement vers 10 days for repair on the Samsung as long as its not damaged.

i too am in the same boat. my ip4 runs like laggy crap on ios 5 and jellybean looks really nice. my problem is that i use iwork apps on my mac, and my dream is that apple will merge the ios and mac apps perfectly, and i can run keynotes off an iPhone without the using my laptop. the 4s technically does this, but the apps aren't exact.

i've been using macs since 2003, and the reason why was apple's software and ease of use. i don't know. i think apple has strayed away from a focus on great software in the recent years for the mac. everything seems to be all iOS, but, personally, i don't think the technology is really there yet to do what i want to do. iCloud is a mess. photos don't always sync. documents don't always upload or download. music isn't matched correctly.

i'll stay tuned to see what software apple rolls out for ios, but i'm probably not going with an iphone next time...maybe the ipod touch will get airplay and i'll just use that for keynotes...

Interesting thread as I've been thinking about this for last few weeks.

Been a Apple user over 10 years and been using an iphone since the 3G came out. I'm currently using an iPhone 4, but I'm starting to get bit bored with IOS.

I bought an ipad 2 last year, but ended up selling it a few months ago as I hardly used it. Always found myself going back to my Mac or iPhone.

I have used many handsets due to my last two jobs. That included a selection of Android devices, but I was never really impressed with them. That is until recently. I bought a Nexus 7 two weeks ago and love it. The OS has come a long way and I am starting to see some of the benefits of Android over IOS. I am not saying it is better, but there are certain things that I love like being able to download content using the chrome browser, access to filesystem, cards, widgets, better multitasking implementation......

I am now considering getting an Android phone for my next phone, but will wait until Apple announce the next iphone before making a decision. I am not really heavily invested in IOS apps with the vast majority of the ones I use being free anyway. I also don't really use iCloud, so no big potential loss there either.

IOS has positive points, but I just think I'd like something fresh to use. Getting bit bored with IOS and using my Nexus 7 has got me that little bit excited again when using a mobile device. Not saying I want to ditch IOS altogether either, just maybe a year or two.

If I did decide to switch, I'd definately go with the current Nexus or upcoming one. I prefer vanilla SW and don't like how third perty manufacturers don't always make Android updates immediately available to users.

Roll on Sept/Oct:D

I guess it depends on what you use. I sat down with both app stores side by side and many apps I use are not available on Android, not just small off the wall stuff either. Watch ABC is a big one. I agree, most major apps are available for both platforms but not all. Android often has a large lag in release times, iOS is first 99% of the time and often by a long time.

I agree, In my opinion most of apple's success comes from a great app store. Its hard for me to leave iOS since there are excellent apps that greatly change my day to day life and really makes a smartphone essential.

I agree. iOS is not that much different from Android. It's the vast selection of the App Store that is keeping me with Apple. If Google could get more apps into their store then it would be an easy switch.

If the new iPhone doesn't do it for me, I think I'll jump ship see what Android is all about. Nothing wrong with testing the waters.

Will wait and see if next iPhone wows me when it's announced. I have to admit that f it comes with a wider AND taller screen, I will definitely upgrade from my 4S just to keep all of my gadgets in the Apple system but it is looking like this will not be the case. I am ready for a bigger screen and not just a vertical stretch and don't know that I want another small-screen iPhone. If it isn't larger, I will play wait-and-see for new model Nexus and Windows 8 phones and compare all models' features and upgradeability before making any decision.

Just curious, what data are you actually syncing? AFAIK photostream is really the only thing Apple has that Google doesn't in terms of data sync.

Actually, DropBox has the the photostream equivalent as does Google+. I like DropBox better since it does pictures and video and is multi-platform.

As for the ecosystem, the only real differentiator is the apps and only for those that are better or not available on Android. A lot of the mainstream apps are the similar though you will have to buy them again.

As for music, Google Music let's you leverage your entire iTunes library. If you have a lot of iTunes movies or TV shows, those aren't easily moved but all MP4 vids are easily played on any Android device. I think Hulu+ is a better choice than iTunes for this type of content anyway.

We have multiple iDevices and Android devices in our home and they actually play well together. The only issue seems to be FaceTime and AirPlay which are proprietary Apple implementations vs. Skype/DLNA.

I just got the iPhone 4 earlier this month so I won't be upgrading for awhile.

Ummm yea. I haven't lived with mommy and daddy in like 20 years. I can see that being a problem if you are a 15 year old maybe

lol.. okay my GF and I share the same appstore account. Whatever is bought we both have on our 4S plus on top of our iPad. 99c adds up! =)

Anyway, I've been considering going back to Android.. had a Droid Eris lol. But the MAIN reason I haven't switched yet b/c of iMessage. It might sound small, but I have a few group messages where it has allowed me to keep in touch with my bro/sis who live away. They text each other and I'm included so I get to keep up on what's going on. This has been huge to me. From what I can tell Android is getting there, but it uses some MMS workaround at the moment. The iMessage has saved me monthly from paying for an unlimited text plan as it's data, which I have unlimited. I dunno it's weird, but I would miss iMessage the most for iOS. I think only one contact I text doesn't have an iPhone so I just buy a minimal text plan.

I'm waiting to see hat Apple unveils. If the new iPhone's screen is only stretched, then it's over to Android I go. I too have a number of Apple products--but it's not as if I choose to go with another phone, I'll be expected to just ABANDON every other device! I'll still be within the apple ecosystem! So for me, it's also a win-win situation!

(Plus, I'll get to use SWYPE!!)
