I haven't found any of the silicon-like straps comfy. I hated the solo loop it hurt getting it over my hand. I have 3 of the sports loops - the ones that thread through. Very comfy and you can get the exact fit for you.

Hi, don't know if I'm late to the party, but I kept my series 0 until now and bought an SE (returning to get the 6 for reasons). And here's why I love apple watch:

1. turn by turn direction sounds and taps when driving
2. hey siri
3. quick glance at notifications, and quick response
4. CAN look at health data if I want to, but not necessarily everyday. I track workouts and it's nice to see my heartrate while working out to make sure I don't overdo it.
5. FIND MY PHONE WITH THE SOUND. i can't tell you how helpful and useful this is almost everyday I play the chime to find my phone.

I still stand at that the watch is a very nice thing to have, but not necessary. As Apple usually does with their products: is it necessary? no, but it makes life just a little bit easier and enjoyable.

I think of mine as an extension of the phone plus some added features. I like it, I originally thought it was close to useless but with the cardio stuff.

Your first sentence is entirely accurate. That’s what I want for Apple To break away from where the Watch is not relying on the iPhone and is it’s own entity. We’re not there yet, but I think if that happens, [more like when that happens], the Apple Watch will be it’s own standalone device, but I suspect will supersede the iPhone in sales at some point.

So, the OP returned the watch!

In any event, as someone interested in getting a watch, mostly for fitness and heart purposes, it was quite helpful to read what others have found it useful for — hearing about real world uses by actual people is much more useful than re-reading a laundry list of features and adverts by Apple!

(Many of us prospective buyers have already done that, anyway, but it was a long blur of slick, colorful blurbs. Plus, as I noted elsewhere, Apple is unclear about which features require an Apple Watch with cellular as opposed to GPS.)

Thus, it's of great interest to see what matters to others — and what they like about their watches — as it can clue us into things that we otherwise might not think of or realize the value of!

I also have received my first watch a couple of days ago, the series 6. I am also thinking about returning it. I have read news and posts about the watch since the introduction and I always thought it would make a bigger difference in my life than I now experienced. Here’s what I have learned:
-I turned off almost all notifications, because I always have my phone with me and it’s much easier to look at the phone, and respond than it is fidgeting with the watch. When my phone is in my pocket, I don’t care much about notifications, if it’s important people will call me.
-Always on screen seems wasteful. There’s almost always a clock or something near me and to be honest, I don’t much look at the time. Other glancable information is nice, but not necessary.
-I never use siri, I don’t like talking to my phone, and also not to my watch. If I need to use siri I can just use my phone.
-ECG, oxymeter, irregular heartbeat, sleep tracking and other health options are very nice to have. But in my case, my heart is healthy and I always have 97-100% oxygen. Also, I always sleep very good.
-Apple pay is just as easy on my phone, which I need to take out anyways to show my customer cards.
-So the best part of the watch for me is the fitness tracking. I like the information I get and I like that it motivates me to get up and move. If there was something like an Apple Band that just tracks fitness I would prefer it.

That all said, I still like the thing very much. I have never owned a watch that is so comfortable as this one. I could look into other fitness trackers that just track fitness, but they are either bulky, ugly, google owned, chinese crap, quickly broken, or just not accurate or trustworthy.
So I’m still thinking of keeping it, or getting the SE. Maybe I find other use cases for it, I’ll see.

Thanks to everyone for you replies.

I took it back today, as I felt I never really had a need for it.

I can always buy another one if my needs change.

You made the best decision, for you. I am another who doesn't use all the features of the watch, but I enjoy owning it mostly for notifications and because I like it. As with most things, it's a personal choice and what works for others doesn't mean it will work for you. If you have an interest in fitness tracking, check out a Fitbit.

OK, so I'm late for this party, but . . .

I've had an Apple Watch since the beginning. I was more excited about it than any other Apple product ever. The wait for that initial delivery was interminable and drove me insane.

I'm currently on a Series 4, Hermes.

I haven't been tempted to upgrade (unlike with the iPhones, when I can never resist) and I've wondered what I'll do when the watch eventually dies.

I'm not spending over a grand on another Hermes. Yes, the leather strap is insanely high quality. It still looks brand new and is as soft as a baby's bottom. And I love the Hermes watchfaces. But — seriously? — it's over a grand. What was I thinking?

The thing is, I barely use the watch. I only wear it outdoors, which basically means an hour a day. I use it to change the volume when I'm listening to a podcast on my walks with my dog. I use it to tell the time. I guess the notifications are useful. But I barely use any of its other features. (It's like my Alexa devices. I'm sure they can do amazing things. I use a fraction of their functionality.)

If I did replace the watch, I'd probably get a Nike one. I like the Nike watchfaces. And I'm over my stainless steel snobbery. I like having a watch. Which is basically all the Apple Watch is to me. And a sort of fashion accessory. Which hides the tattoo on my wrist, which is good because then people don't ask me about it.

You returned it? Great

I'm considering purchasing a AW S6 and judging by your first couple of posts I was afraid I'd be associated with people like you, but glad to hear that isn't the case any more 🤣
