It has been 2 weeks since the release of the X and have had it since day 1. At first the feeling was faint that it was silly coming from a 7+. Comparing the screen size was almost identical, the clarity on the x was better but still questioning to keep a $1200 phone. After the couple weeks I went back and forth was it the device for me? It’s quickness, clarity and ease of use with swipes and simplicity made me start to fee like a natural. When I originally bought the 7+ I went back and forth if it was too big, should I go back to a 5 or 5s. After the 14 day stretch I decided I will keep the x as my daily driver and see what happens I think the device is great form factor is there along with its ability to have ease of use.

I can’t use the X as my daily driver. Can use it as a weekend driver but that’s not practical. The footprint of the 6/7/8 fits my needs better because I can use that footprint comfortably and securely with 1 hand which is my preferred way to use my iPhone. When I first got the X it was a weekend and was using it in the house mostly naked and it was FANTASTIC. It was the same size as my 7 with a Magpul. The weekend was over and I need a light medium protective case during the week and when I put the Otterbox Symmetry case on that’s when it went downhill. I couldn’t use it comfortably and securely with 1 hand in most situations. I either had to be stable or I dropped it a lot when trying to use with 1 hand luckily on surfaces that wouldn’t have cracked the screen. I dropped it a couple times standing in the bus cause when I tried to use 1 handed I had to let go of the bar in the bus and when the bus stopped the X flew out of my hand.

Then I tried the Apple Silicon case which made it much better but I need more protection than that. Most of my week demands a more protective case which then makes the footprint bigger. Damn I wanted it to work and tried like heck.

The 6/7/8 footprint for me is the perfect compromise. The screen has been big enough to watch movies etc and I still can use 1 handed with surety and comfort.

I was hoping that the X would have been a 6/7/8 with full edge to edge screen then a plus model. But that didn’t happen and people like me are sh*t out of luck.

Coming from an iPhone 6 I too was taking a 'wait and see' approach, ordered an X on release night just so I could play with it at home and convince myself that Face ID was awful, that wireless charging was useless, that the extra weight was noticeable, that is was just like my beloved 6 and not worth the money.

Boy, was I wrong.

The X is the greatest consumer electronic product ever created. All the new features that sounded bogus are fantastic- Face ID is so good you don't even know it's there, it's like having a phone with no security at all. Wireless charging is just more convenient, my kids constant breaking of shared Lightning cables no longer applies to me. And the battery life? It's crazy. My 6 on its best day would leave me with 35% battery life at the end of a 12 hour workday, my X has been averaging 81% battery remaining at 7PM when I get home from work.

What kind of case were you using on your 6 and what kind are you using in your X?

Like I said above 1 hand use is most important. When I use the X naked it was FANTASTIC. With a case I can’t use it 1 hand like I can with my 7.

Even though I went with the 8+ your reasoning is sound and based on solid logic. Nice! Thanks for sharing.

Can I suggest AppleCare plus or SquareTrade as your solution

Same one on the 6 and the X- the Apple Black Leather Case.

No doubt the extra few millimeters of width make it different, the body height I don't even notice (feels the same in the pocket) except for the extra screen height obviously (for browsing). From a form factor standpoint, there are only three things that take adjusting to for my use cases:

1. The extra width for one-handed use, but in my case it's not something I do much, maybe 1x a day, so it's not bothering me.

2. The extra width makes it so that it no longer fits in my car's cupholder which is a pretty big deal as I'm a daily car commuter and I needed to find a new place to park my iPhone while driving. Thankfully BMW put a retractable cupholder cover for just this situation and it lets me lay my X down nicely albeit at the expense of concealed cupholders.

3. The extra weight is noticeable but because it directly is responsible for the crazy battery life I'm getting, no worries, I'll take the extra few ounces and like it. I get home with 81% remaining, used to be only 35%.

Yea I definitely can’t use the likes of a Apple leather or silicone case cause of work etc. What I use now is the Magpul for my 7 and it’s perfect. A Magpul on the X would make it too big for me.

I liked the X, too, when I played with it in an Apple Store.

If I was in the habit of dropping that much $ on something, I'd have bought it instead of a 7.

I miss the swipe gestures of navigating webOS, which the X replicates pretty well. I'm hoping this swipe interface comes to devices with a home button.

I have the RhinoShield CrashGuard bumper case. It is slightly less bulky than the one made for the 7+, but retains the durability. Great case for the X as it leaves the back open, which I like (I’m willing to risk the damage to keep it exposed).

What I have found and believe is true is Apple is creating the way and pushing us to use our devices a certain way. While using the X with no haptic home button I found it very easy nice and fluid. I did in fact go back to my 7+ for a couple days to see and if I would just return my X til I actually needed a phone. I found myself swiping up and dining that home button to be a pain in the ass. Being able to type and control the device with one hand makes more sense. You will see how Face ID will help create a new marketplace for many things. It should be able to pull 3D renders for facial things security features being able to render images for products maybe even help for Health Kit. I feel a smaller device allows Apple to sell the iPad platform so phones are used as phones.

I agree, and it will also push us to buy other updated products (I’m already annoyed with the home button on my iPad, and am looking forward to purchasing the rumored iPad with FaceID).

I use a Spigen Slim Armor case on mine and use it mostly one-handed (am typing this one-handed while on an elliptical - using right handed keyboard). The rounded and silicone sides make it easy for me to keep a good grip.

I was used to a 5s and have small hands (petite female) so it was different at first but one handed use is very doable for me. Have had since Nov 3 and no drops.

Definitely see gesture controls and Face ID making a debut with the iPad hopefully in 2018 as rumored previously. Those should be some nice changes, especially when using a larger interface like the iPad.

Coming from a Note 8 the iPhone X seems very small and easy to use one handed.

Got my X on day 2. Future MR generations will reminisce about the [clickbait adjective] 2017 iPhone X launch weekend when Apple unexpectedly made lots of units reservable for in-store pickup. Current MR readers will understand why I felt I had no choice but rush to reserve one, and drag myself to an Apple store in cold blowing rain -with a scratchy throat- instead of staying in bed reading MR on a lazy Saturday off work.

With my former plans derailed (use my iPhone 7 and wait until next year to even look at one in person), I suddenly found myself with a great iPhone X and a lot of concern about being a financially irresponsible spoiled brat.

For two weeks I was changing my mind about having spent the money, but I never changed my mind about loving the iPhone. The X was in a case and never left the house during week one, in the event I came to my senses. I read MR threads about the ongoing 14-day returns, realized how easy Apple makes it to go online and click return, but I just could not part with this phone. I'll have to find something else to adjust in my budget.

Yesterday I did something that somehow makes it all feel better.

I gave my pristine iPhone 7 (with AppleCare, unopened accessories, matching lightning dock -I plan to charge wireless overnight soon) to a close friend who was visiting and trying to use a failing iPhone 6. He was thrilled and I'm much happier to share my iPhone craziness with a friend than to sell it on eBay. I spent the afternoon helping him migrate (and OMG, so many of our friends have never backed anything up or put their contacts in the cloud, etc. etc.).

Happy returns to those who chose otherwise, but thanks to everyone for this forum where we users can share our crazy, learn that we fly under the radar of someone else's crazy, pick up tips (like the one that got me this X in the first place) and tricks, and all that good stuff.

I said in another post, Apple has sold millions of the the next generation ipad without a product being announced.
