Keep in mind with the Apple program. Even if you get approved. Your payments get charged to a card. And Apple may not charge interest. But the card use use every month charges interest. That is why I went the route of simply selling my 6 plus and buying my new phone out right. And using the proceeds from the sale to pay off my new purchase.

THANK YOU! At least someone gets it

No company can stop a charge from accumulating interest. Regardless your credit card will have interest for your balance and what's due. Won't the $37 a month for your iPhone be apart of that balance?

Come on people

I'm pretty sure anyone remotely close to being financially responsible does not carry a balance on their credit cards (unless there is a promotion.) Just pay your balance once it's posted (3-5 days), don't wait until your statement arrives at the end of the month and there won't be any incurred interest.

Either choose a card that you pay the balance off every month or do like others have done and make an account at Citizens, and choose to have the monthly payments come out of your bank account.

I understand that fully

What I didn't understand was the need of a credit card and having it being charged to your card

Oh well

Initially, yes. But you can log into your Citizens account and change the monthly payments to come directly from a bank account if you wish to do so. There's nothing to say you have to continue having the payments charged to a credit card...that's just how the initial program is set up.

Well I have a 1289 FICO score and I'm not even American. Went in for the upgrade program and my score is so high that Apple gave me a 256GB iPhone 7 in Platinum. Yeah that's right, Platinum.

You would be surprised. Not everyone thinks like you.

I pay my balances in full before my cycle date closes.

I know many who just wait for the due date and have it come out of their checking.

I know others who just make minimum payments.

All three scenarios are technically financially responsible but the bank does throw up red flags on your account if you're just paying the minimum.

Yes, if you pay the full amount charged just like any other credit charge there will be no interest. Im not a big fan of this long phone payment plan but some might like. I like your approach. Sell the old, buy new in full and you're done.

Keepig a balance is irresponsible? Need to me

This country is built on credit and debt.

As long as you make money and can afford what you charge, your responsible. Just because some people rack up debt and struggle to make payments doesn't mean it applies for every single person with a credit card

Get off your high horse, you sound dumb

The point of the program is to make it easy for someone to upgrade every year. It is a hassle for some people to try and find a buyer for their phone on Craigslist or sell it on eBay and have fraud problems. Stop being so darn judgmental.

It's very easy and simple to sell it online or locally.
I'm not judgemental, reality is there's many people with bad credit out there that will not qualify for this plan. If you're taking it personal for some reason that's on you.

If there is a bunch of ppl that cannot get approved for the Apple program, perhaps they shouldn't be financing a phone every year. They have enough money issues as it is.

I was approved for the plan (thank god), and looking at my CreditKarma it does show a hard check was done. I'm wondering now, If I wanted to get my girl a phone this way if it will do another hard check. And when I get my new phone next year, is it going to do another hard check then....

Now you're getting it. Plus it's such a small amount to have listed on your credit report. Why bother with it? If you can qualify for this, then you'll also have better options than this. Get a discover with good size credit line and take advantage of their apple pay promotion. It's zero percent the first year even if you can't pay the full balance off at the start.

Even carrier financing would be preferable to Apple's mess of a program (although financing a phone at msrp is kinda dumb).

I do like the plan better than my Carriers plan for upgrading. Its very similar but Apple's was more appealing. But If I go to renew my phone next year and they need to do another hard check, I will be returning to carrier options.

Because it is still the easiest way to upgrade your iPhone every year. I see very few people posting about poor credit or that they cannot afford to pay cash in this thread. More people are posting about the convenience, and due to some bug they aren't getting approved for the loan.

My final update:

Called Citizens One this morning to see if my rejection reason had come through the system yet and it had. Initially they told me that Equifax reported that there was a freeze or block on my report. So I immediately called Equifax to see if this was true or not. After verifying all my information with them, that was not the case.

So I called Citizens One back to call them out on it. The rep said to give her a few minutes, she wanted to go over my account with a manager. Roughly 10 minutes later she came back on the phone with the following explanation: The first two attempts at the application were because the address entered both didn't match the credit card trying to be used, or any previous address on my credit history. This was unbeknownst to me, as I didn't see the Apple guy putting it in. What he did was just pulled the address that Verizon gave him when he entered my phone number information. I didn't realize that doubled as my billing address for the credit card/loan application.

By that point, Citizens One's system put a flag on my SSN that multiple credit cards with multiple address were being used to open an account that wasn't being approved by Equifax. On the third attempt, it locked me out completely... which is the reason the 4th - 1,000th attempt that I did was declined.

Apparently there is no way around the 30 day waiting period as this is an Apple regulation. Not a Citizens One rule.

So, now, I'm going to dispute the hard pull on my credit report because when I try again in 30 days it will do another hard pull she said. If I happen to pass my apple store (roughly 20 minutes away) I intend to go in and ask to speak to a manager and explain I'm upset, and why, and how it was an Apple error causing this headache (not to mention a few points off my credit score).

In 30 days I'll give it another go, and make sure ahead of time there is nothing on my equifax report that would stop it, that my credit cards have the correct address, and that Apple has their s*** together.

I will be disputing the hard pull on my credit report. Apple will have to make this a smoother process for me to re-attempt their upgrade program. For now, I'll just stick with my carrier.

Apple should have started this program weeks ago with the Iphone 6. This would have been a good trial run and would have given sales an extra little shot.

The best day to introduce something totally new to all of your employees is on the busiest day of the year.

Oh, please get off the elitist high horse. You don't know each person's financial situation to make such boldface and patently false opinions.

I was denied. I am close to a six-figure income, which I am the single income earner in my household of four (2 children, wife is blind). I've paid off my loan for our SUV ahead of time. The only thing on my credit report are the loans for my house.

The housing crisis killed my credit horribly, which I'm trying to rebuild. I'm not meaning to brag here, but while I could easily pay for 10 6s Pluses outright, paying for them outright does absolutely nothing for improving my credit. The AUP program could do that. But by your reckoning, I have money issues.

You don't know anyone's financial situation except your own, so keep your elitism and assumptions in check.

They'll use the same report 3 times before doing another check, if you go with the AUP within 30 days time. After those 30 days, they'll do another hard pull. And it's after the 3rd hard pull that will also lower your credit score, and stay on your record for 2 - 3 years.

so if i go for another AUP within 30 days (as i got approved for previous one) they will just see my previous one?

That's what Citizens told me when I called them on Saturday. It starts to affect your credit score after the 3rd hard pull.
